Stehekin Elementary School Teacher
Supervisor: Superintendent & Board of Directors
Salary Range: Based on Education and Experience Conditions of work: 8 hours/day, minimum 190 days per year
(exempt position)
Qualifications Required:
Possess (or qualify for immediate issuance) a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s): K-8 Elementary Education
Minimum one year of successful teaching experience
If the applicant does not possess endorsements in Elementary Education and/or middle school mathematics and science, the willingness to work with the Stehekin District to achieve applicable endorsements for teaching grades K-8 is required.
Preferred:
Middle School Math and/or Science endorsement
Multi-age educational experience Location/Assignment: The Stehekin School District is located at the upper end of Washington States 55-mile long, Lake Chelan. The Stehekin School is a K-8, one-room school.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The K-8 teachers responsibilities are significant. The teacher will plan and implement classroom instruction consistent with district curriculum in a manner that assures student achievement.
Additionally, the teacher prepares and delivers a monthly Teachers Report summarizing educational activity at regularly scheduled Stehekin School Board meetings. The teacher also prepares and delivers student progress reports for students and parents during the course of the year. The teacher forges close communication connections with students, parents, the Stehekin School Board and community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Professional Characteristics- One Room School
1. A passion to encourage student growth intellectual, artistic, and social.
2. Previous experience with multi-age learning responsibilities.
3. A demonstrated knowledge of the developmental requirements of children ranging in age from five to fourteen.
4. The dedication to greet each student with a dynamic curriculum that actively engages the intellect, physical body and artistic growth.
5. The ability to create interdisciplinary units of study using, but not primarily relying upon, technological tools where necessary as a supplement to current study.
6. The understanding of how the arts and physical activity enhance the growth and development of the child through the development of small and large motor skills.
7. The creativity to engage children in many practical activities calling for intense concentration.
8. Classroom management skills providing a safe and supportive learning environment.
9. The ability to be sensitive to small community dynamics and to navigate the complexity such an environment provides. Be willing to assimilate into Stehekins one-room curriculum/culture.
10. The ability to communicate effectively and positively - a clear communicator with strong speaking and writing skills capable of expressing ideas for different audiences: children, parents, school board and community.
11. Physical and mental tenacity.
12. The Stehekin School District Board will provide an annual one-room curriculum training for this position.
This position in the Stehekin School District provides opportunities not available in most school districts. This unique community is only accessible by boat, float plane or hiking. In addition to enjoying this beautiful scenic area, the successful candidate can expect to perform duties not normally part of a teaching position; for instance lighting the wood fueled furnace. Heating the building, lighting morning fires provides a metaphor defining the teachers singular goal lighting the fires of capability and creativity that will assure student achievement.
