Job Summary:

Machinists and tool and die makers perform routine to moderately complex tasks in relation to creating, altering, and assembling various tools and dies. They set up and operate a variety of mechanically-controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, instruments, and tools for use in production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Repairs, builds, and maintains a variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, presses and equipment.

· Study blueprints, sketches, specifications, or CAD files to determine material dimensions, required equipment, and operations sequences.

· Compute and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of work pieces.

· Sets appropriate clearance to making components and tooling.

· Acts as quality control and tests completed tools and dies to ensure they meet specifications and operate effectively.

· Regularly communicates problems and improvement opportunities to immediate supervisor.

· Assures that all tools are accounted and cared for, and can be used safely.

· Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

· Performs work with productivity and efficiency improvements being the desired outcome.

· Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

· CNC wire EDM experience preferred.

· Requires in-depth working knowledge of the terms, procedures, products, and components found in the industry.

· Requires critical thinking skills to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve mechanical problems.

· Requires the ability to perform the various aspects of the job.

· Requires ability to grasp small devices as well as common tools.

· Requires knowledge of and ability to use industry relevant hand and power tools.

· Ability to work independently and as a team while meeting deadlines and goals set by management.

· Requires knowledge of the characteristics and grades of tool steels and heat treating processes.

· Requires use of basic and advanced mathematics.

· Requires ability to be extremely precise in measurements and tolerances.

Working Conditions:

· Requires ambulatory ability to walk and stand on a continuous basis

· Must be able to stoop, kneel, and crouch on a regular basis.

· Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

· Requires the ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 50 pounds on a regular basis and heavy weight objects on an infrequent basis. All heavy lifting is done with the help of a co-worker and/or equipment (e.g. a forklift).

· Requires sufficient hand-arm-eye coordination to guide objects into specific placement or alignment, make intricate connections, and make precise measurements.

· Requires auditory ability to project voice in a production environment and hear instructions.

Education and Experience:

· Requires the completion of a high school curriculum.

· Requires the completion of Trade School and 3-5 years related experience.

Job offers are contingent on candidates successfully completing a pre-employment drug screening.

Standard working schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.
