West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), part of the WVU system of campuses, is seeking a self-

motivated and driven Communications and Marketing Strategist. This is a Non-Classified, benefit eligible position.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Develop advertising scripts and copy related to advertising/marketing campaigns.
  • Write, review, proofread, edit and lead the production and publication of marketing materials; provide general editorial support
  • Provide support to other program areas by providing editorial review of promotional content.
  • Develop story or content ideas, considering reader or audience appeal.
  • Conceptualize, develop, oversee news and features; solicit contributions; and may manage one or more publications.
  • Assign topics and stories; provide coaching and support to those providing content submissions as needed.
  • Conduct research and verifies facts, dates and statistics using standard reference sources.
  • Provide oversight and direction of integrated marketing and communication strategies for the campus.
  • Plan and submit production schedules, support internal and external article contributors and reviewers, coordinate with UR team on deliverables. Write, edit, and oversee newspaper and radio commentaries, news releases, feature stories, opinion pieces, etc.
  • Write and edit media advisories and releases.
  • Confer with supervisor and staff members regarding placement, emphasis and appropriateness of news stories and features.
  • Produce, prepare and distribute WVU Tech News & Events for weekly distribution and other internal messaging documents as needed.
  • Assist with the development of speeches, responses, statements, etc. for campus officials for internal and external use.
  • Conduct interviews via phone, email, and in-person for the development of media releases and web content.

Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Length of appointment: 12 months

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Marketing and Communications - 3-5 years
  • Involvement in higher ed -3-5 years preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in marketing goal development, tracking and analytics
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strong customer relationships
  • Experience in developing and executing multichannel communications and marketing plans
  • Experience in clearly articulating (written and verbal) strategies and plans to achieve goals
  • Self-starter and can lead independently and proactively
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving and high attention to detail
  • Ability to adhere to WVU brand guidelines
  • Ability to keep abreast of changing technology as it impacts marketing and make necessary changes
