motivated and driven Communications Specialist- Enrollment

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Work with their supervisor to develop and implement overall integrated strategic communication plans consistent with the goals of Enrollment/Admissions, the campus and the University. Writes and produces content for appropriate platforms based on target audience (including but not limited to web, social, etc.)
  • Work with the team to ensure communication plan is executed by all applicable deadlines. This may include working with others to update the language of a planned communication, to gather the appropriate population, to code the language for the appropriate medium, ensuring flexibility as needs change, and liaising with University Relations.
  • Work as an integrated team member and key liaison for prospective student and family-focused content and determines the most effective strategies (text, photography/graphic, video) and appropriate platforms (print, digital, social) to best enhance Admissions/Enrollment efforts. This includes creating – and analyzing the success of – content for publications, graphics, news releases, announcements, web content, social media, presentations, emails, letters, call scripts, auto responses, text messages, and text built within various platforms (including but not limited to our CRM).
  • Create content to help students understand the admissions process and support student success as they enroll at WVU Tech.
  • Collaborate as needed with staff to identify opportunities and gaps in communication. Serves as primary liaison and maintains regular and frequent contact with internal collaborators (Admissions) and external collaborators (University Relations and other campus departments) to solicit relevant information and provide updates and counsel to meet communication needs, prioritize opportunities, and strategize execution. Makes recommendations to supervisor regarding solutions to identified communication gaps.
  • Build the visibility and reputation of through innovative usage of social media channels. Coordinates social media strategy and efforts with the admissions counselor(s) who support admissions social media accounts.
  • Monitor current trends in marketing, communications, and social media to evolve the strength of communications and outreach from Admissions.
  • Collaborate with Admissions and University Relations to create visual content through video, photography, and graphics for use on digital and print platforms.

Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Length of appointment: 12 months

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or related field.
  • Operations and communication experience- 2 year and/or experience as a graduate assistant is preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of communications principles, media relations, marketing techniques and operations
  • Demonstrated excellent interviewing, writing, editing and speaking skills, including the ability to distill and clarify ideas under a deadline.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively communicate with administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other executives/staff at the University levels and maintain cooperative working relationships.Knowledge of news and media relations and the use of various social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of data analytics and strong news and feature writing skills using AP Style, AP A Style.
  • Ability to manage online content, including Web, social media and other digital platforms.
  • Ability to work under continuous time constraints, multiple deadline pressures, and manage priorities effectively.
