The Manager of Marketing and Business Development directs all aspects of marketplace presence, outreach and client relationships for the Marshall University Research Corporation’s Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and Appalachian Transportation Institute (ATI). Supporting the research and regional economic development missions of both entities, the Manager of Marketing and Business Development is expected to:

  • Support contract and grant-funded research activities through client interface, project management, internal and external reporting and program evaluation
  • Plan, coordinate, promote, and execute special events, programs, projects, and target marketing initiatives
  • Produce content for project reports, press releases and social media including the development of graphics, charts and digital media
  • Coordinate, oversee, and analyze social media content and strategies which may include but is not limited to: management/redesign of website(s), search engine optimization (SEO) strategies and Google analytics
  • Provide professional and technical assistance to departmental staff related to marketing and communications strategies and best practices
  • Understand federal, state and local government policy trends and developments relating to client needs and organizational goals
  • Collaborate on grant applications and proposal development
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and funding agencies
  • Attend continuing education conferences, training, webinars and events for state/federal funding programs and regional economic development agencies
  • Prepare and present project results, press releases and development efforts to a diverse set of stakeholders and across multiple formats
  • Performing market research and analysis
  • Producing/assisting with feasibility studies and business plans for public and private entities
  • Assist with other project responsibilities as requested and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or related field and 5-10 years’ experience in related fields including sales, marketing, customer service, administration regional development.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven experience in strategic thinking, problem solving, client relations, time management and all forms of communication
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business development and create multiple options for success
  • A solid understanding of, and experience in managing key marketing communications activities (brand identity and positioning, PR, promotions and advertising, collateral development, quality control, and corporate events planning and management)
  • Ability to convince groups of people to work toward a goal
