Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced

Cloud Engineer to join our

Richmond, Virginia office location.

The Cloud Engineer participates in all phases of the software development project lifecycle and is responsible for a wide variety of tasks. The Cloud Engineer assists in the architecture, design, development, implementation and maintenance of custom cloud-based solutions. The Cloud Engineer will work as part of our application development team to build and deliver best-in-class geospatial solutions for a variety of clients. They will gain exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function and may require occasional direction. Ideal candidates will have experience with cloud and GIS technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides unrivaled customer service and consulting to clients
  • Builds best-in-class geospatial solutions
  • Work collaboratively as part of our software engineering team to deliver outstanding solutions
  • Design, build and maintain entire cloud solution stacks as code
  • Automate and maintain CICD tools to support application development
  • Collaborate with project teams to implement agile engineering practices
  • Assisting with technical business development and cloud RFP responses
  • Researches technical problems and suggests improvements or solutions
  • Works with project teams to consult with clients on technical project decisions; offers customized, knowledge-based cloud development services to our clients

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated, self-starter; flexible, detail-oriented, problem solver, who enjoys interacting with team members and clients; willing to work at a dynamic pace to complete tasks and meet deadlines; and share a commitment to our firm’s vision, mission, and shared values.

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to work independently and productively on cloud infrastructure and services following limited direction from a technical lead
  • Ability to originate new concepts, strategies, or innovative approaches that have significant impact on our solution delivery process
  • Ability to develop IaaC that is maintainable, correct, robust, and efficient
  • Understanding and apply common cloud architectures to deliver working solutions
  • Experience with common cloud and software development technologies and programming languages (e.g. Bash, Powershell, Python) is necessary
  • Ability to analyze software performance issues and recommend solutions
  • Ability to work independently and tackle most tasks on their own and understand when they need to reach out for help
  • Ability to mentor peers
  • Ability to give accurate estimates of how long a given piece of functionality will take to implement and the probable challenges
  • Preferred experience with GIS (Esri and/or open source GIS such as GeoServer)
  • Preferred experience with AWS
  • Preferred AWS Associate or Professional level certification

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of experience in information technology
