Completions Structural/Mechanical Lead Engineer I - Appleton, WI in GAC Appleton

Unique Skills:

This is a Lead Mechanical Design Engineering position in the Completions engineering group, responsible for VIP completions of large cabin Gulfstream business jets. Project management responsibilities involve coordinating activities for technical personnel and establishing and communicating clear project performance expectations. Candidate will be responsible for reviewing models, drawings, analysis, and reports to ensure customer specifications are met. Individual must be willing to train and mentor others in engineering design and to review the work of others for accuracy and quality. Future growth for this position includes increased levels of people leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities of the group include new and derivative designs of interior furnishings and wire harnesses as part of outfitting new business jet aircraft. Example designs include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets and other storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. Additional responsibilities include managing interior weight, design for manufacturing, and controlling part and manufacturing costs. Candidates should have working knowledge of AutoCAD and CATIA V5. Candidate must have strong project management skills and be able to work with various internal groups and external suppliers. Excellent time-management and communication skills (oral and written) are a must. This is a fast paced manufacturing environment where schedule and budget goals need to be met.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in engineering, a related curriculum required.or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job

. 5 years related engineering experience with Bachelors. Master's Degree Experience credit will be considered for related advance degrees limited to 2 years or Ph.D. Experience credit will be considered for related advance degrees limited to 4 years.

Position Purpose:

Executes engineering tasks of moderate complexity with predetermined performance objectives by providing direction to engineering employees within similar disciplines working within a single department

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  • Develops and evaluates plans for activities and assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed methods and analysis to achieve technical product cost and schedule requirements .
  • Supervises activities of subordinate employees who perform similar tasks within a technical discipline by using established policies and precedents .
  • Plans, coordinates and directs a complex engineering project or a number of smaller projects with moderate complexity .
  • Provides technical guidance to ensure quality of product and schedule .
  • Trains new engineers in methods and procedures .
  • May be called upon to assist in budget preparation and employee evaluations .
  • Additional Functions:
  • Actively works to improve daily processes and ensures all work meets customer requirements .
  • Maintains a current knowledge of developments and applications of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise .
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • The level of managerial skills and abilities appropriate for this grade may be established by each discipline.
  • Assigned to problems of moderate complexity.
  • Faulty decisions could cause delays in schedules and inefficient use of resources.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
