Description:

The client is looking for a Database Administrator IIISummarySQL Server Database Administrator :This contracted position under general guidance, performs the role of SQL Server Database Administrator to provide technical expertise and support for the research, planning, development, management, design, testing, and implementation of the SQL Server database solution in a culture that embraces agile development.This role would include performing DBA tasks for both on-prem environments and cloud environments (Azure) as well as a few Oracle databases for all teams .This position will also help in the migration of Oracle databases to SQL Server. This position is responsible for providing daily operational and technical supportfor the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, upgrades and versioning, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the program opportunities .This position provides support on management of co-located database and application server environments.This position provides support in the assessment, selection, upgrade, user level support, standardization, and implementation of application and database change management software facilities and processes.Work is multitasking in nature, self-initiated and conducted independently.Work Tasks :Support and maintain the agency’s Microsoft SQL Server Database Environment (both on prem and in the cloud), and also assist in supporting the agency's Oracle database environment.Provide database support, including security components, for enterprise wide projects and applications including determining hardware specifications related to the database environment as well as spacerequirements related to our current and future data needs and overseeing the development and organization of databases and implementation of new technologies.Help to develop standards related to the database environment and follow the client security standards .Install, configure, manage, administer, and maintain multiple SQL Server environments including prod and non-prod for each project/application.Create and manage SQL Server databases and database files, tables, indexes, views, constraints, etc.Complete performance tuning and optimization.Provide support related to security components of the database environment including policies and procedures.Setup, configure, and maintain all aspects of database security and user access including roles, groups, and users.Support agency’s IT daily operations by performing database change management requests and deployments.Monitor availability, performance, and usage of the database environment, create reports and alerts to communicate status, and maintain high performance availability.Troubleshoot issues, review error logs, and perform issue resolution.Create, maintain, and monitor scripts, jobs, and job schedules.Work with the ISSI team on backup and recovery operations.Design new databases and define their relationships with existing databases according to the client standards.Create and maintain indexes on these databases.Implement and maintain version control and build control/packaging for database objects and etl packages.Administer and organize the client internal and external reporting environment.Develop and maintain documentation related to the database environment including related protocols, standards, policies, and procedures.Train the client staff to take advantage of advanced functions provided by the database systems, including consulting with users to provide technical support in queries and reports from the agency database.Assist in administering and maintaining the remaining Oracle database at the client and move forward with plans to migrate these databases to SQL server.Maintain technical expertise on relevant IT subjects through periodicals, trade journals, manuals, electronic publications, and social media.Remain current in technological development and advances to identify new and emerging technologies to enhance, improve and expand existing agency database system capabilities.Collaborate closely with ISSI, DevOps, and other teams and maintain awareness of operating procedures and environments of the Data Warehouse, Applications Development and Information TechnologiesTeams.Plan and assist in disaster recovery procedures.Help to support agency’s business intelligence, reporting, and application programsBuild ETL packages, stored procedures, and/or jobs as needed.Migrate updates for the database and ETL jobs between the secure and public dev, test, and prod environments.Run and monitor dev, test, and prod builds. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with the development team.Monitor usage and create reports to communicate usage patterns.Review SQL queries for new metrics and complete performance tuning to prepare for production including creating indexes.Setup and monitor security and create reports to perform security audits.Analyze systems; provide design recommendations for improved performance and data integrity checks.Design, test, debug and document new complex programs/procedures and make revisions to existing programs/procedures to meet the changing needs and requirements of the client .Perform system/integration testing and provide assistance to technology staff during acceptance testing and system implementation.Help users learn how to use database and reporting tools to access the data through the database and/or reporting tool.OtherRepresent department and team in collaborative cross agency and interagency projects, workgroups, and advisory committees.Prepare special reports and recommendations as required by the IT Directors, CIO or State Superintendent.Provide competent, objective advice to leadership to assist managers in decision making.Assist in supporting the agency’s legacy Oracle database environmentOther duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :Ability to install, maintain, and administer databases using Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2016, and 2019.Ability to install, maintain, and administer databases on prem and using Azure SQL databases and Azure managed instances.Ability to perform database development and design.Ability to perform backup and recovery procedures.Ability to implement performance monitoring, troubleshoot performance issues, and implement solutions.Ability to design, implement, and maintain a database security methodology.Ability to perform ETL development using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services(SSIS) and Azure Data Factory (ADF).Ability to write PowerShell scripts.Ability to utilize DevOps for day to day requests, version control, and build management.Ability to work with complex relational database systems.Ability to perform systems analysis and design.Ability to create stored procedures.Ability to develop project schedules, including such things as deliverables, tasks, timeestimates, and dependencies.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Knowledge of computer trends and developments.Knowledge of logical and physical data modeling techniques for both applications development and data warehousing.Knowledge of database system monitoring tasks and tools.Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.Knowledge of Azure SQL databases and Azure managed instances.Knowledge of column encryption such as Always Encrypted.Knowledge and ability to perform database administrative tasks using Oracle.Knowledge of Active Directory/Azure Active Directory.Skills in written and verbal communication, including information related to communicating complex technical issues.
