Project Description:
  • Systems Engineer will play a key role in the design, planning, execution, and installation of the current infrastructure to support new applications and technologies.
  • Support software and hardware upgrades and maintenance of Windows servers, operating systems, infrastructure systems, and applications.
  • Must have extensive experience with standard industry practices including management of Windows Server systems.
  • Systems Engineer capabilities with 8 or more years of experience, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, independently performs a variety of complicated tasks, a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Objectives and Tasks:

Administer servers and systems
  • Recommend, install, maintain, optimize, troubleshoot, and document Windows and VMWare server systems.
  • Manage and support cloud infrastructure systems in Azure and/or AWS
  • Research and maintain currency in relevant industry trends, provide recommendations for implementation of new technologies, generate project plans to ensure successful adoption of new technologies.
  • Research, install, and maintain software monitoring systems to ensure the Department achieves its' goal of minimal downtime and peak performance.
  • Provide reports and schematics as directed by the Operations supervisor.
  • Act as a consultant to the Bureau’s Solution Delivery (SD) section to ensure seamless deployment and maintenance of web pages, business systems and applications.
  • Administer Active Directory domain infrastructure.

Mobile Device Management
  • Recommend, install, maintain, optimize, troubleshoot, and document Apple iOS devices.
  • Support software and hardware upgrades to mobile devices using mobile device management systems.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records of services contracted, physical inventory, usage, procedures, and practices and other information needed to provide high quality service and support to agency staff and business partners.
  • Work with agency managers, staff, and vendors to identity mobile device needs of the agency. Provide technical assistance to department management on proposed adoption of new equipment and services to meet those needs.
  • Assist Operations Supervisor and senior IT staff in identifying and analyzing emerging mobile technologies useful to the agency in fulfilling its mission in a cost-effective way.
  • Install, optimize performance, secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and provide comprehensive documentation for mobile technologies.
  • Review and route usage detail and summary information for supervisor and internal audit review.
  • Analyze billing information and work with vendor agency management to manage costs effectively. Make recommendations on efficiencies in mobile services to reduce cost.
  • Develop, maintain, and document procedures and "how-tos" to ensure avoidance of system outages in the event of staff "outages" (vacations, etc).
  • Utilize approved processes to ensure that acquisition, transfer, and disposal of assets are consistent with Department and State standards.
  • Must have extensive experience with standard industry practices including management of mobile devices.

Support End-users:
  • Provide first and second-level end-user IT support by email, phone, or in-person.
  • Participate in triage of IT help desk tickets.
  • Act as a backup support for the Department's telecom systems.
  • Possess considerable logic and understanding to analyze and troubleshoot problems.
  • Must be able to prioritize trouble calls and respond to emergencies and all levels of troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform as second level support as a secondary function.

Knowledge /Skills/Ability (KSA):
  • Knowledge of Windows desktop support.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem determination and resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • Experience in writing PowerShell scripts to automate system engineering tasks.
  • Experience managing Microsoft’s Internet Information Services (IIS).
  • Experience managing iOS mobile devices.
  • Experiencing administering AirWatch and Apple Business Manager.
  • Experience supporting organizations by working within a help desk ticketing system.
  • Expert working knowledge of Microsoft server operating systems.
  • Expert working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware.
