Position Summary:

The Communications and Content Manager serves as a team lead for the PR and content team in Integrated Marketing Communications. This individual oversees workflows and timelines, ensuring that project/department milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved budgets. This position collaborates with the IMC management team, digital team, design team, account management team, and diverse clients, maintaining creative and brand quality.

The Division of Continuing Studies supports the University of Wisconsin-Madison mission and the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea by advocating for and engaging lifelong learners. The Integrated Marketing and Communications (IMC) team advances the division mission and enriches the UW-Madison brand through the deployment of sophisticated marketing and communications strategies that enable and encourage enrollment of adult and nontraditional audiences at UW-Madison.

This position reports to the Associate Director and Creative Group Lead.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required (most relevant academic fields include marketing, advertising, journalism, communication arts, or related fields).

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

  • Seven years of professional experience, with increasing responsibility, in marketing, advertising, journalism, communications, or a related field, overseeing content and managing project teams in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Development of content marketing strategy and understanding content marketing tactics used to drive traffic, engagement and leads.
  • Understanding of crisis communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead content marketing campaigns.
  • Experience leading a team of writers, developing their skills and facilitating their growth.
  • Rich experience in using storytelling as a driving force in marketing strategy.
  • Understanding best practices of social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, which strategies work on each and how to measure and optimize.
  • Proven track record of successful PR campaigns, including fielding media questions and pitching stories to the media.
  • Understanding of branding and brand enforcement.
  • Development of editorial governance so content has a consistent voice, style and tone.
  • Listening, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies across departments.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple, simultaneous projects in a detail-oriented environment and contribute to the success of the entire team.
  • Proven experience as a collaborative, thoughtful, open-minded, adaptive problem-solver.
  • Proven ability to be self-directed and to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse internal and external audiences with energy, collegiality, patience, passion, curiosity, and a sense of humor.
  • Candidate may also have one or more of the following desired but not required qualifications:

  • Experience with project management software.
  • Professional experience in higher education.
  • Experience in journalism.
