Job Description

The Senior Machinist contributes to Canal's success through set up, operation and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines such as Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machines.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, sets up, operates, and adjusts various types of conventional or automatic machines such as Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machines
  • Works from drawings and written instructions to create replacement and new parts in making complex repairs to metal parts as well as for experimental apparatus or prototype equipment
  • May write or significantly modify an existing CNC program to create finished part
  • May assist with the writing of new programs
  • Performs diversified machining work to ordinary tolerances
  • May provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced machinists
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures

Qualifications

Experience and Skill Required

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Vo-Tech and/or other manufacturing education preferred
  • Five (5) or more years of experience
  • Requires extensive knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining processes
  • Understanding of cutting tools and processes
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to thrive in fast pace environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Manufacturing terminology knowledge
  • Basic technical competency
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to drive and operate machinery
  • Ability to use measuring devices (i.e. tape measurers and calipers)
  • Teamwork
  • Initiative and problem solving
