MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced Senior VMware Systems Engineer for a client located in Milwaukee, WI. Our client is a well-known and highly respected manufacturing organization seeking bright, tech-savvy talent. The organization's IT department is growing and currently they only have one Sr Systems engineering doing the job so they need more support. Client Industry: Manufacturing Location: Milwaukee, WI 53224 Remote/Onsite: Onsite with some flexibility Job Type: 6 months Contract to Hire or Direct Hire, also open to contractors Job Title: VMware Systems Engineer Experience Level: 5+ years of experience Must Have Skills: VMware, virtualization, going to dual environments for security purposes, eager to learn, it's a level 2 role. Schedule/Hours: Standard CST working hours Job Description: This person is responsible for maintaining the operational status of VMWare systems, VDI desktops and Windows desktops and Windows servers and will work closely with other members of the IT systems team to support a busy and driven business environment. The duties of this position are to provide VMWare, Storage and Windows support to complex enterprise solutions. The candidate will be required to work both independently and collaboratively to address incidents, problems, and vulnerabilities, and contribute to infrastructure enhancement projects. The candidate will operate Windows-based platforms and services, including Active Directory, DNS, Office365, and other standard services on a regular basis. Responsibilities also include monitoring alerts, managing the ticket queue, and keeping documentation up to date. Candidate is required to have strong analysis and problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex problems, and participate in technical cross-functional meetings. Candidate must be willing to provide 24/7 coverage (on-call rotation) and participate in after-hours patching on a scheduled basis. Essential Functions:

  • Installs and configures server and virtualization technologies within the enterprise as directed by the Enterprise Systems Architect Lead.
    • Knowledge and enterprise experience of VMWare 6.0 and higher is key
    • Knowledge of Data Protection Solutions, preferably Dell/EMC, is required
    • Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN and server technologies.
    • Contribute to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
  • Assist applications/web teams with the support of servers hosting client and internal applications.
  • Configuration management and change control of servers.
  • Ensure availability of web, database, and application servers.
  • Perform backups and ensure recoverability of servers.
  • Providing expert server systems consultation services to non-systems administrators through actively participating in client and internal project meetings.
  • Responsibility for server systems security and support to peers with security issues
    • Implementing, maintaining, and improving server system security
    • Identifying and responding to security vulnerabilities, attacks and events
      • Logging breaches or recognized attempted breaches
    • Finding, testing, and implementing ways to harden systems against possible threats
    • Supporting vulnerability scanning
    • Centralized patch deployment systems
    • Developing, reviewing and communicating accepted practices related to server systems security
    • Escalating security incidents to Management.
  • Analyzing, designing, and implementing server systems upgrades and expansions accurately without adversely affecting systems availability.
  • Communicate system trends, issues and outages to management and peers through evaluating, implementing, maintaining and improving server systems management tools:
    • Systems configuration, documentation, and reporting
      • Create build specification based on application requirements while maximizing security, reliability and performance
      • Creating/updating documentation of build, backup and recovery procedures
    • Systems monitoring and alerting
    • Systems performance monitoring
  • Provide 1st/2nd level systems support by addressing issues, questions and problems.
  • Optimize client and internal satisfaction through teamwork and a strong commitment to customer service by:

Qualifications (skills, knowledge, experience)
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Commensurate experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 5+ years experience with Windows 2008-2016 Server, VMWare, enterprise storage
  • Strong technical and non-technical communications skills.
  • Ability to establish user trust and confidence in the groups knowledge of and concern for users business needs
  • General server knowledge is required, including the following: Windows Server 2008-2019, Microsoft Exchange 2016, Active Directory, VMware. Desired skills in Public Cloud Services (AWS/Azure)
  • Familiarity with LAN/WAN and multiplatform environments
  • Experience with service desk application implementation, maintenance, and support is preferred
  • Will be required to lift and install computing hardware and work in a secured IT infrastructure environment
  • Must have a valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record, along with adequate insurance
