Job Description:

Job Summary:

The PR & Communications Manager will work to deliver engaging and targeted communications to internal and external audiences in support of agency goals. The ideal candidate will excel in writing, media relations, project management, small-scale event planning and relationship-building.

This position will report to and work closely with the Senior Director of Marketing, PR & Communications, and will work in coordination with other stakeholders at Boys & Girls Clubs to ensure our messages are accurate, impactful and consistent at all times. S/he may, at times, work closely with volunteers, board members, donors or consultants for specific projects.

Job Responsibilities:

Produce a broad range of written communications, including press releases, news stories, event scripts, presentations, letters, emails, talking points and copy for event materials and advertisements

Develop relationships with members of the media and create strategies to engage the media with the Clubs’ mission

Distribute media alerts and press releases to members of the media and pitch story ideas

Closely monitor earned media activity and create regular reports to include audience numbers and ad value

Work with staff at Club locations to identify and prepare adult and youth spokespeople and serve as a Club spokesperson when necessary

Provide support with crisis communications

Develop new cause marketing opportunities and steward current relationships

Contribute to the development of marketing strategies to meet organizational objectives for fundraising, membership recruitment and frequency of attendance

Manage large-scale projects like the annual report and public fundraising announcements

Manage design projects from start to finish in partnership with graphic designers

Complete all projects according to the Clubs’ brand standards and advise all areas of the organization on proper brand standards

Provide excellent customer service to donors, sponsors and partners

Collaborate on high-priority projects with short deadlines

Serve as ambassador at community events, including some evening and weekend commitments

Own nomination process for Club staff and volunteers to be considered for community award recognition

Work directly with digital communications coordinator to ensure offline content is represented through online channels

Collaborate with special events team to create plans for event promotion

Work in conjunction with advertising and PR agencies that are occasionally contracted as an extension of the Clubs’ communications team

Contract with outside vendors to order printed materials and promotional items that are on brand

Assist with managing the marketing budget and tracking spending throughout the year

Assist with creating department dashboard of key stats and deliverables to share with the senior team and other internal stakeholders

Required Experience:

Skills:

Excellent writing and communications skills (both verbal and written)

Good organization and prioritization skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously

Basic understanding of graphic design principles

Demonstrate passion for working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Excellent attention to detail and work ethic

Understand how multiple mediums can support a uniform message and voice

Enjoy connecting with people from all areas of the organization and community

Must have a valid WI driver’s license, good driving record, and meets state required automobile insurance minimums.

Education:

BA or equivalent degree in communications, marketing, business, journalism, English or related field required

Experience:

5+ years relevant experience with writing projects and media relations

Experience in Microsoft Office Suite
