Under the supervision Dean, Creative Arts, Design & Media, assists in the instructional process by providing general support in a classroom, lab, and studio settings and support to individuals or small groups. Primary focus of responsibility is student retention especially in early semester classes. Work includes collaboration with assigned Tutors, Staff, and Faculty to improve retention and promote the programs to current and potential students. Sets up and maintains instructional equipment, bulletin boards, and other specialized equipment related to the educational division or other area of assignment. Work is generally varied using established procedures requiring judgment and the making of minor decisions. Judgment and analysis are required in making decisions within established procedures. Supervision received is general in nature. Daily responsibilities are completed independently using established policies and general objectives with occasional supervisory contact for policy clarification or interpretation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing and implementing methods to meet the specific needs of the students

    referred for supplementary instruction.

  • Assists students with instructional activities by encouraging learning and study skill

    behaviors that help accomplish their academic goals; refers students to appropriate MATC

    and community resources.

  • Assists students, individually or in groups outside of class, by reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of tutoring initiatives.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining files, databases, and progress reports on the performance

    of students within the program; reports to Dean and Pathway support staff (Advisors, Coaches, Liaisons, etc.) on the status of student performance.

  • Acts as a liaison between students and MATC instructors and staff.
  • Plans, prepares and develops teaching aids; dispenses learning materials that supports student’s educational needs.
  • Performs duties related to check-out and check-in of equipment used by students; provides additional hands-on support to students; ensures the safe operation of the laboratory equipment; establishes and reinforces lab regulations related to lab and equipment use; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; creates purchase orders and orders supplies, equipment and requests repair of equipment.
  • Assists students with career exploration of courses and programs offered at MATC.
  • Assists in developing, communicating, and implementing a manageable student action plan.
  • Offers weekly workshops such as; test taking and study strategies, time management, and

    instruction specific to the Television and eProduction Programs.

  • Plans, prepares and develops teaching aids; dispenses learning materials according to the

    student's needs.

  • Assists with weekly advanced topic/hands-on seminars utilizing department equipment,

    personnel and facilities.

  • Develops promotional material for the Television & eProduction Programs.
  • Attends in-service training, workshops, divisional meetings, and other educational activities with Pathway support staff as required.

    Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.

    Qualifications

    Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

    Required Education: Requires 30 approved college credits with an emphasis in television and video production .Preferred Education: Sixty (60) approved college credits with an emphasis in television and video production. Preference will be given to recent graduates of the MATC Television and Video Production or eProduction Associate Degree Program with documented experience in field and studio production at the professional level.

    Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to include the following:

    1. Knowledge of instructional and related procedures as appropriate to MATC and the TVP/eProduction

    Programs.

    2. General knowledge of the principles of action learning and their uses for instructional

    support/retention.

    3. Knowledge and skills in the use of various hardware and software technologies including desktop

    publishing, word processing, electronic spreadsheet, multimedia, and presentations is essential.

    4. Familiarity with the use of instructional media.

    5. Organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

    6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, teachers and the

    general public.

    7. Ability to understand and support the student teacher relationship.

    8. Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.

    9. Ability to work with students' of varied levels of achievement.

    Required Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in area of specialization; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.Preferred Experience: More than one (2) years of relevant experience.

    Required License/Certification: None.Preferred License/Certification: CPR/First Aid Certification.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.

    • Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
    • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
    • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.
