Cattle and chickens and crops, oh my!

Seeking an experienced farmer for a 800+ acre Delta County farm, on the beautiful Garden Peninsula, between Escanaba and Manistique, 9 miles south of Highway 2, in the small community of Garden, Michigan. Farm includes cattle, hay and a variety of crops (apples, raspberries, grapes, vegetables, etc.). Base compensation with incentive fees based on producing positive financial results are part of the contract package. House (4bd/2ba) to live in is on premises.

FARM MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION:

- Experienced farmer to operate and work on the farm in a manner that is consistent with what a traditional farmer, sole operator, does on land owned and cared about.

- All aspects of planting and producing crops, cutting and baling hay, caring for a large grazing herd of beef cattle, pruning and pesticide use for orchard, vineyard and berries.

- Must be dedicated, honest and experienced farm manager capable of working with others and providing timely and accurate reports to the owner.

- Ability to operate various farm equipment and provide basic repair and maintenance.

- Must have good communication skills and positive attitude to achieve success in marketing products and in developing relationships within the community and with support resources.

- Experience selling crops is desired.

- Farm budget management, purchasing, record keeping, and income and expense control is required.

- Ability to schedule work, respond to variable weather conditions and to follow through with plans is a basic requirement.

- The land, woods, buildings and equipment are to be improved rather than depleted through good stewardship and thoughtful farming practices.
