Summary

The Mechanic works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. This role includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. This person provides direction for effective execution of maintenance activity on all machinery and equipment throughout the plant and office facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the optimum utilization of available resources such as manpower, equipment, time, etc. This person must be responsible for decisions, actions and failures; must establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results. In addition, the maintenance mechanic must partner with others to get work done and work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • General maintenance of mining equipment with emphasis on mechanical repairs
  • Normally works with others of lesser, equal or higher knowledge and or experience, however may work alone while performing trouble shooting, analysis, adjustment, calibration, inspection, teardown, parts cleaning, component rebuild, and other assigned tasks

  • Employees in this classification are expected to continue to learn and improve their skill in preparation of higher level classification and added responsibilities

  • Job classification may advance to Maintenance 4 upon employees request and completion of advancement, testing, and evaluation

  • Pre-shift inspections, Work Safely, Follow Safety Rules, Clean shop

  • Read precision measuring instruments

  • Minor equipment repair, assist with major equipment repair

  • Must be willing and able to train all levels of maintenance personnel in accordance to their abilities and expertise

  • Operate maintenance support equipment in production mode

  • Basic crane rigging and cribbing/blocking

  • Operate mining equipment in maintenance mode

  • Demonstrate effective team skills, score a minimum 3 on the evaluation

Typical Education

High School diploma or equivalent

Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions

Must be a self starter with ability to work alone or in a team environment

Relevant Experience

  • Normal reasoning skills
  • Ability to read and understand parts and repair manuals

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system.

  • Troubleshooting skills in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system

  • Basic computer skills – JD Edwards, Outlook, Excel, Word, ET, VIMS,TPM, SIS

  • Assist with preventative maintenance inspection

  • Basic working knowledge of Oxy/acetylene cutting and welding, along with stick\wire feed welding

  • Use parts and service manuals to identify parts needed and service manuals to identify proper repair procedure.

  • Use of VIMS, ET, SIS, and Cummins Computer programs to diagnosis and trouble shoot

  • Spill avoidance, control, and clean up

  • Lift 50 pounds on a regular basis

  • May be required to, but not limited to; sit, stand, kneel, crouch, climb, bend, and reach for unspecified time periods during a shift

  • Work exposures may include, but not limited to, the following conditions: wind, rain, snow, extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, dust, humid, wet, heights, trenches/pit, repetitive motion, shock impact to hands and joints, chemical and electrical hazards

Other Information

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.

Preferred: Experience with 480-volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory, and represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high, precarious places.

Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
