GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Retirement Center (WRC) is looking for a Nurse Practitioner who will provide mental health care to the residents of this long term care facility located at the foot of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Performs complete histories and physical exams on residents, reviews and records pertinent data, completes the appropriate diagnostic work- up and procedures and recommends or provides treatment within legal limits.

  • Orders necessary external diagnostic procedures.

  • Performs patient rounds to examine and diagnose ill residents, transmit specific orders, prescribe treatments, and monitor patient's recovery.

  • Instructs and counsels staff regarding residents' diets, disease, therapy and progress.

  • Documents patient information and treatment in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and governing regulations.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of 6 months mental health care experience in a long term care or acute care setting.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of current state and federal regulations.

  • Knowledge of advanced nursing practice including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and other applicable theories related to psychiatric/mental health care.

  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and mental health concepts, with advanced knowledge of principles, concepts and practices of persons-served care and treatment.

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the operation of a health care facility, including CMS standards and survey process.

  • Knowledge of skills necessary in performing evidence-based clinical practice procedures.

  • Knowledge of skills in developing and maintaining interpersonal working relationships with individuals, families, peers, communities and other health care professionals.

  • Knowledge of skills in effective leadership and communication, including use of computer for efficient communication.

  • Knowledge of and ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

As required by licensing board

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

For Nurse Practitioner - Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as an RN by the Wyoming Board of Nursing and have completed the requirements for certification as an APN in the State of Wyoming

For Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioners - Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Psychiatric/Mental Health APRN by the Wyoming Board of Nursing. Agency may require prescriptive authority or ability to obtain WY prescriptive authority.

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lift persons and/or medical equipment of varying sizes and weights up to approximately 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to provide on call services as assigned.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Exempt

  • Position is full-time

  • For the health and protection of the persons we care for, an annual influenza vaccination is required as well as annual testing for tuberculosis.

  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant.

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety sensitive positions (direct patient care positions are considered safety sensitive). Drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on any positions if reasonable suspicion exists.
