GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The position exists in order to supervise the Casper Trail Division's attorneys and staff. Our organization exists to provide effective representation to indigent criminal defendants and to ensure that courts and prosecutors adhere to constitutional, statutory, and procedural law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Supervision of trial attorneys. The supervision of attorneys includes the assigning of cases.
  • The supervision of staff members is done in a manner that attempts to evenly distribute the workload.
  • Establish and maintain contact with clients. This involves visiting clients in jail, meeting with clients in the office, and speaking with them on the telephone.
  • Appear in court for arraignments, preliminary hearings, motion hearings, and sentencing hearings.
  • Guide clients through the justice system while protecting their constitutional rights.
  • Review discovery, interview witnesses, and conduct investigations.
  • Negotiate with prosecutors for favorable plea agreements for clients.
  • Prepare for and conduct trials.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to those with prior supervision skills. KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Legal research and writing experience.
  • Familiarity with research and word processing platforms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Juris Doctorate

Experience:

10+ years of relevant legal experience; and 3+ years of management experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Requires membership in the State Bar as an Attorney qualified to practice law in this state.
