GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

In Casper, Wyoming, the District Attorney's Office has an immediate opening for an Assistant District Attorney. The position handles the prosecution of misdemeanor-level offenses. The position prepares a variety of court documents and argues motions before trial court; conducts jury and bench trials; confers with investigative agencies; plans, coordinates, and institutes activities related to the prosecution of misdemeanor cases; coordinates case investigations with law enforcement agencies; checks instructs or directs the work of their assigned legal assistant as necessary.

Candidates must currently be licensed to practice in Wyoming and be in good standing with the Wyoming State Bar and must be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Handles basic core assignments: rules making, contracts, document review, client counseling, legal research for higher-level Attorneys, opinion writing, appellate briefs, oral arguments, settlements, client counseling.

  • The Prosecution/Public Defender environment handles a variety of misdemeanors and some lower-level felonies such as repeat DUI and repeat Domestic Violence. May receive training and assist in juvenile delinquent, Child in Need of Supervision, and Neglect cases with supervision.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of criminal laws and jury instructions

  • Knowledge of the criminal laws and jury instructions

  • Skill in organization and effective use of available time and resources

  • Skill in communication, using oratorical and persuasive speech on diverse subjects

  • Skill in leadership and decision making

  • Skill in the allocation of materials and personnel on a priority basis

  • Skill in teamwork to be utilized with law enforcement, court personnel, and other community agencies and representatives

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Juris Doctorate

Experience:

0-2 years of relevant legal experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Requires membership in the State Bar as an Attorney qualified to practice law in this state.

  • This job has the same working conditions as an office job.
