    The High Plains District Office is co-located with the Casper Field Office. At the base of Casper Mountain and along the banks of the North Platte River in central Wyoming, the High Plains District includes the Casper, Buffalo, and Newcastle Field Offices.

    Responsibilities

    You will be performing a broad range of technical engineering functions in support of project construction and maintenance. You will plan, coordinate, and work with other staff members on projects supporting various natural resources activities. You will prepare construction surveys, design, plan, and draw specifications for contractor construction on such projects as roads, minor dams, reservoirs, fences, etc. You will conduct and prepare designs and specifications for the required capacity, size, location, materials and methods to be used in roads, trails, pipelines, etc. You will prepare material necessary to develop construction, supply, service, and rehabilitation contracts. You will participate in gathering and analysis of facility and transportation system condition assessment data for various structures.

    Physical Demands: These positions require extended periods of field work. This includes vehicular and foot travel over steep uneven and rock mountainous and desert terrain in all types of adverse weather conditions. Considerable strength, stamina, and agility are necessary for stooping/bending/lifting. Work requires the ability to effectively cope with pressures associated with both fixed and irregular deadlines and management of multiple priorities.

    Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting as well as in the field. Field work could involve extreme weather conditions, rugged terrain, remote locations, and/or environmental hazards.

    Qualifications

    In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.

    To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the federal service OR have completed two full years (36 semester hours) of GRADUATE level college education in civil engineering or a directly related field OR have an equivalent combination of experience and education. Specialized experience is defined as: providing technical support for surveying, estimating, and preparing & monitoring contracts; making recommendations regarding projects and preparing reports; assuming the lead position on subject disciplines such as water rights, or supervising temporary summer seasonal employees in survey; assisting with the planning and budgeting of proposed projects; conducting and preparing engineering designs and specifications; and other directly related experience.

    You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
