GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Attorney General's Office is seeking an attorney to represent the Department of Insurance, Department of Administration and Information Human Resources Division, the State Auditor, Wyoming Retirement System, various licensing boards, and other state agencies as assigned. This position will also assist and advise other clients on legal matters daily, represent clients in litigation and appeals, provide legal advice, review contracts, draft legal opinions, attend client board meetings, and review administrative rules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
  • Advise elected and appointed officials and client agencies on policies, pending litigation, case law, statutes, and rules related to the agencies' statutory duties.

  • Litigate cases and appeals before the Wyoming Supreme Court, state district courts, and federal courts.

  • Research and draft legal memoranda, opinions, rules, letters, manuals, and other documents on various issues.

  • Attend client board meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Conduct legal research to provide day-to-day legal advice.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Those with experience and/or interest in civil law are encouraged to apply.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of civil procedure, appellate procedure, local court rules/procedures, and state and federal rules of evidence.

  • Skill in legal research, including drafting legal memoranda and briefs presenting results and conclusions in an advocate's position.

  • Skill in organizing ideas and legal principles in clear and concise oral and written presentations.

  • Ability to manage large amounts of information and analyze for legal impact.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Juris doctorate.

  • FLSA: Exempt

  • Successful applicants are required to pass a criminal background investigation

  • This position is at-will and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Attorney General (W.S. 9-1-608).
