JOB TITLE: Clinical Educator

DEPARTMENT: Education

REPORTS TO: Chief Clinical Officer

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), the Clinical Educator shall assess, plan, implement and direct education needs of Clinical Departments within West Park Hospital facilities. The Clinical Educator serves as a facilitator of learning, and academic liaison, change agent, researcher, effective communicator, advisor and mentor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Current Wyoming Registered Nurse license required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years’ experience in hospital clinical and/or education setting.

SKILLS: Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people. Verbal ability to present information and ideas. Maintains confidentiality. Ability to function independently and prioritize. Must be well motivated and organized. Must be able to manage multiple projects as well as interface with multiple departments. Demonstrates ability to operate, set-up, and use necessary audio-visual equipment such as VCR/DVD, TV, over-head projector, laptop computer, audio teleconference unit, and videoconference devices.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: BLS, ACLS, PALS, also ACLS and PALS instructor certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates and participates in annual Education Month to meet the educational needs of employees and to comply with regulatory requirements. Collaborate with Human Resources Department regarding new employee orientation. Directs the clinical orientation during new employee orientation.
  • Oversees the Life Support Education Department and personnel within the Department
  • Maintains clinical skills and knowledge by actively being involved in clinical activities within the clinical departments. This may include working within clinical departments or shadowing employees within departments to keep current with skills and advances in clinical practices.
  • Serves as a liaison for student nursing programs to facilitate nursing student training and CRH staff education, including sharing of simulation labs.
  • Conducts educational needs assessment on an ongoing or emergent basis to plan education programs offered. Assists with the coordination of educational offerings provided by consultants/instructors by departments, medical staff, and administration.

  • Develops and leads the Education Committee to focus on educational offerings and improving quality of care.

  • Ensures accurate records of attendance and rosters, or educational programs, and provides for timely entry into staff education records. Obtains C.E.U.’s from appropriate agencies when requested. Works with the Life Support Education Coordinator in maintaining records of all C.E.U.’s obtained.
  • Prepares a department budget for capital and operational expenses. Monitors variances on an ongoing basis to assure budget is met.
  • Develops and implements policy and procedures specific to the processes in the Education Department.

  • Develop simulation-based programs as appropriate.
  • Responsible for managing the Preceptor Program and ensuring Preceptors receive proper training. Serves as a resource for Preceptors. Communicates Preceptor and Preceptee pay codes to Human Resources and Payroll.

  • Serves as the site administrator for the Lippincott educational site and communicates any updates to clinical staff and departmental directors. Utilizes Lippincott to provide on-going education to clinical staff.
  • Responsible for oversight of BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC (and other classes) to ensure class offerings and meet the needs of the organization. Responsible for reporting to department directors’ periodic reports on employee certifications and renewal.
  • Serves as an ACLS and PALS instructor to assist with teaching classes.
  • Responsible for ensuring mandatory skills competencies are completed as assigned.
  • Serves as the Site Administrator for the on-line education.
  • Serves on committees as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer.
  • Assist with development and coordination of residency and nurse extern programs.
  • Assists with the development and coordination of clinical equipment education. Serves as a member of product evaluation committee.
