    The purpose of this position is to supervise employee involved in the classifying, rating, routing, and shipping of cargo. The work requires knowledge of transportation regulations, methods, and techniques, as well as a wide variety of freight. Applies tariffs, considers tariff rates, packing and crating rates, and directives.

    Responsibilities

    • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Cargo Movement Element of the organization, ensuring that the work performed complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
    • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
    • Represents the Cargo Movement Element with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
    • Conducts pre- and post-audits and maintains shipping documentation.
    • Determines freight classification for a variety of items some of which have no record or published classifications.

    • This position is a Supervisory position and incumbent will serve a one-year probationary period.

    Qualifications

    The organizational location of this position is: Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) 90th Missile Wing (MW), 90th Mission Support Group (MSG), 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS), Deployment and Distribution Flight, F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes researching, interpreting, analyzing and applying appropriate guidelines, policies and regulations related to cargo movement; determining the legally applicable and most economical rates and routes for shipment of freight in accordance with published tariffs to worldwide final destinations; and experience in packaging, crating and shipping of cargo and equipment.OREDUCATION: You must have 1 1/2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education related to the position to be filled.(COPY OF TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)ORCOMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education and experience can be combined to meet the minimum qualification requires. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education required and add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note that only graduate education in excess of one academic year can be combined with the appropriate level of experience to qualify for this position at the GS-8 level.     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

    1. Knowledge of transportation principles, policies, regulations, methods, and techniques relating to the movement of cargo/freight.

    2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

    3. Knowledge of a wide range of commercial tariffs and tenders to properly rate freight/cargo shipments.

    4. Knowledge of a variety of standards, route orders, and freight classification guides.

    5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.

    PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires federal agencies to treat an eligible active duty service member as a veteran, disabled veteran, and preference eligible (as applicable) when applying for civil service positions before the effective release or discharge date.
