GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a full time position at Camp Guernsey, WY. We are looking for a motivated person who can diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul State of Wyoming Vehicles and equipment. The complex combination of the mission, the size of the State fleet on Camp Guernsey, and geographic location of Camp Guernsey requires a full time, flexible mechanic with a broad mechanical capability who can work in a shop or in the field.
Human Resource Contact: 307-777-8120 matthew.nix@wyo.govESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.- Performs preventative and predictive maintenance on a large fleet of work trucks, and other equipment associated with the State of Wyoming, Camp Guernsey Department of Public Works (DPW).
- Troubleshoots older to newer type equipment through diagnosis tools such as computers and other various types of testers.
- Overhauls, troubleshoots and repairs gas and diesel engines, drive trains, hydraulic brakes and electrical systems on vehicles from small to heavy equipment. Also welds stick, MIG, TIG, wire, torch, and fabrication of parts.
- Utilizes computers to manage inventory, develop and track preventive maintenance plans and scheduling, Also, to create, execute and submit work orders.
- Performs regular maintenance and safety inspections on gas, diesel vehicles from small to heavy equipment to include tune ups, oil changes, and safety inspections.
- Schedules work activities as the shop manager.
- Prepares paperwork, reports, parts, and purchase orders for funding requests.
- Contacts vendors and develops scopes of work. Follows purchasing and bid protocol to develop purchase orders and funding requests.
- Inspects and reviews all work contracted to outside vendors to provide the budget analyst the approval or dis-approval of the continuation of the payment process.
- Manages the parts and materials needs for daily shop use.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to the candidate with a strong mechanical background.
Preference will be given to the candidate with expertise in basic computer skills.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge of equipment manuals
- Knowledge of purchasing regulations and process
- Knowledge of agency forms
- Problem solving and analytical skills are exercised on a daily basis
- Mechanical skills must be broad from basic repairs on a lawn mower to Heavy diesel repair and overhaul on Heavy equipment to complex monitoring systems in Fire Trucks and equipment.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to operate a work order system is a must.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Mechanic
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Mechanics) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Mechanic

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, body parts, bio-hazards, potential explosive, and the elements.
- Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Must pass a federal background check.
- FLSA: Non-Exempt
