GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is primarily responsible for identifying, attracting, engaging, and informing eligible youth and their families to apply and attend the Wyoming Cowboy ChalleNGe Academy (WCCA).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Direct WCCA marketing to a wide variety of audiences to include prospective applicants (at-risk teens), parents, influencers, educators, members of civic organizations, prospective mentors, governmental employees, and the general public.

  • Conduct organizational and individual planning and plans adjustment.

  • Maintain databases and specific program statistical information (to include prospects, applicant, and graduate tracking data).

  • Accurately update prospect, applicant, and student records in an electronic database system and hard copy files.

  • Process and review state-wide and non-resident youth applications in a timely manner; contact applicant or family members to request missing data.

  • Plan, write, update, and/or execute WCCA public awareness program unit's Marketing Plan, monthly calendar, news releases, response to inquiries, speeches, and internal data products.

  • Attend weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings as needed/directed.

  • Perform regular communication and reporting of organizational, recruiting, media, applicant, and student information to non-locally assigned staff.

  • Prepare and deliver written correspondence and/or public speaking presentations in a positive, upbeat, and professional manner to support the Academy's mission.

  • Manage and utilize government-issued equipment to enhance recruiting operations; submit reports of use, damages, and/or repair/replacement needed.

  • Report and compile state-wide Outreach information monthly to higher headquarters.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to applicants with prior youth experience.

Agency requires a valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of teen recruiting methods.

  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of public relations practices and techniques.

  • Knowledge of current computer hardware and software applications.

  • Knowledge of young adults and youth instruction techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Public Relations)

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations)

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations)

None

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Some out-of-state travel will be required for training and recruiting purposes.

  • May be required to travel outside assigned region occasionally.

  • Frequent evening and weekend hours are required.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-exempt

  • Pre-employment background check of work history, Central Registry, and NCIC required.
