GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for conducting payroll audits and tax collections for the Workers' Compensation and Unemployment Insurance program to ensure compliance with State of Wyoming statutes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Establishes relationships with other governmental and private entities both in and out of state to facilitate statute compliance.

  • Makes verbal presentations to various organizations and groups when called upon.

  • Makes decisions which could potentially be defendable all the way to the Wyoming State Supreme Court.

  • Investigates and gathers evidence.

  • Works autonomously, without direct supervision, within assigned physical area (Field District).

  • Applies Wyoming state statutes and agency rules and policies.

  • Collection of past-due employer reports, taxes, interest and services fees within the assigned Field District, including the issuance of subpoenas.

  • Establishes yearly and/or special audit schedules as assigned.

  • Plans the overall strategy for the expected conduct and scope of the audit.

  • Initiates and represents the agency in legal actions, including small claims court and as an expert witness in administrative hearings and court cases.

  • Directly conducts actual audit work and verifies data and documents as to source and implication.

  • Reviews audit work papers for accuracy and adequacy.

  • Prepares and submits audit reports.

  • Prepares case files for legal actions; works with legal staff as necessary.

  • Serves as a liaison for the Division to each community within the assigned district.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's degree in accounting.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of financial calculations.

  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques necessary to conduct a thorough examination.

  • Knowledge of public speaking to present examination findings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor II

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor II

Necessary Special Requirements

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional travel within assigned field district and in state travel for annual meeting.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-exempt

  • Successful candidates who reside within Teton County will qualify for housing allowance.
