Perform the duties of Accountant for the Economic Development units under the Research Division. Assist with directing the operational, financial, personnel activities, services and planning functions of the units.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accounting: Provide leadership and oversight of Economic Development accounting needs in alignment with all UW financial policies and procedures. Maintain budgets, accounting records and processes for all accounts, ensure accuracy and consistency.

    • Analyze financial information and provide results and recommendations to the Director of Business Operations

    • Reconcile accounts and P-cards

    • Payments of invoices, POs, contracts, IDTs, etc.

    • Authorize or reject expenditure/disbursement of sponsored project funds in accordance with applicable statutes, policies and budgetary limitation; research complex data, analyze situation and recommend alternative solutions.
    • Review and maintain accounting status of special accounts or financial reports.

  • Financial Operations and Budgetary Management: Assist with planning and monitoring all aspects of financial operations. Assist with annual budgeting, provide monthly and on-demand budgetary reports.

    • Conduct analyses and projections.
    • Review business practices, policies and procedures and make recommendations for greater efficiency.

    • Human Resources: Prepare hiring requisitions, completing HCM transactions, assist directors and leaders with HR processes and procedures.

    • Serve as resource to University departments and outside agencies; determine project/program compliance and accounting of financial transactions; identify and resolve data input and reporting errors; provide information, interpretation and assistance to auditors and other outside agencies.

    • Coordinate activities and events with the Economic Development units and other departments across campus.

    • Assist with reorganizations when needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • May supervise other office staff.
  • Maintain filing system for records; review and analyze financial data relative to University.

  • Attend meetings and coordinate activities with other departments.

  • As directed by supervisor, oversee financial operation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience: 1 year work-related experience, in an office setting, with accounting or bookkeeping

  • Required education, licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: None

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Official Vehicle Policy found at: https://www.uwyo.edu/risk/files/docs/offical-vehicle-policy.pdf

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with cloud-based financial management or HR systems.
  • Experience in Excel

  • 3 years of experience in budgeting, analysis, and cost projection

  • Experience with HR processes and procedures
