POSITION SUMMARY

The Controller is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of IMH’s financial planning, including but not limited to general accounting, operational budgeting, capital budgeting, reimbursement strategies, long range financial planning, cost accounting, case mix management and financial analysis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Effectively directs and administers the general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and accounts payable functions.
  • Effectively supervises the IMH Accounting Department personnel.
  • Provides direction and support for IMH Accounting personnel.
  • Selects, trains, develops and evaluates IMH Accounting personnel and initiates personnel actions in accordance with the IMH Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Generates financial statements accurately and on a timely basis, with minimal year-end adjustments; meets all health system financial reporting requirements.
  • Manages financial audits.
  • Regularly updates management regarding anticipated capital additions during the fiscal year based on actual and anticipated asset capitalization to ensure compliance with established guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Master’s degree or CPA required.
EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a Controller position in a hospital setting required.
  • Working knowledge of Patient Financial Services, Materials Management and Medicare cost reporting.
  • Experience with Meditech and Lawson systems.
CREDENTIALS

  • CPA preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate ability in planning and implementing hospital accounting systems for rural hospitals.
  • Working knowledge of business law, payer contracting, and information systems.
  • Ability in cost accounting, case-mix management systems as well as reimbursement analysis and strategies which apply thereto.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers and the general public verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate effective listening skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to establish priorities effectively.
  • Possess exceptional problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
  • Ability to learn new computer software programs.
  • Ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
  • Demonstrate ethical and legal accountability for the position.
