Job Summary

Under the direction of the Library Director, this position will help to craft and implement a marketing plan for the Albany County Public Library. ACPL has recently established a new mission and vision statement and is working on finalizing a 5-year strategic plan. A key component of that plan is developing more coherent messaging that ensures the community knows who we are, what we do, and why we do it. Because we are a small organization, this position will balance between supporting big picture planning and day-to-day communication needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing and Graphic Design

  • Design marketing materials including: brochures, newsletters, fliers, bookmarks, etc.
  • Work with library departments to create promotional materials for special events and resources; review all promotional materials.
  • Collect information about library events and services to distribute throughout the community and state.
  • Create, implement, evaluate and update the library’s marketing/public relations plan and style guide on an annual basis in coordination with library administration
  • Work with library administration to develop and keep current a communication plan for alerting staff and public to library changes; planned and immediate closures; or emergencies.
  • Serve as media contact; coordinate and encourage media coverage for special events
  • In coordination with the Meeting Room Specialist, coordinate the creation of promotional materials and plans to increase public awareness and use of the ACPL meeting rooms.

Website and Social Media

  • Manage day-to-day posting to Facebook and Instagram accounts. Coordinate with other staff as necessary.
  • Serve as the primary responder to Facebook and other social media messenger queries.
  • Oversee website: provide direction on overall appearance, create website content, provide guidance and feedback on content created by other staff members
  • Manage library blog and work with other library staff in writing and publishing blog entries.

Other

  • Assist in crafting and implementing flagship events for the library (e.g. summer reading kickoff, keynote author events, etc.)
  • Participate in library meetings and committees; attend continuing education training; seek opportunities to learn new things; keep skills up-to-date, growing, and follow current library trends.
  • Represent the library at community events such as parades, Farmer’s Markets, etc.
  • May provide support to the Friends of the Library and the ACPL Foundation with the development of marketing and promotional materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Degree, with some college or college degree preferred
  • Experience with customer service and event planning
  • Experience creating marketing materials
  • Experience developing an overarching marketing plan and style guides
  • Experience with Canva

Other Requirements

  • Required background check for final candidate.
  • Expected to work 20 hours per week. Some weekend and evening hours may be required, including support for special library events.

Salary & Benefits

Wage: $15 - $18.50 per hour

Hours: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule, partial remote work available

Leave: Sick, vacation, and holiday leave provided
