GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position will work directly with the Business Officer Manager and duties will include inmate trust/banking activities, processing of inmate payroll, reconciliation of various bank accounts and the production of budgetary tracking reports and analysis, and assist in other business office areas such as the facility reception desk, warehouse, and Canteen areas, as well as other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Ensures subsidiary systems balance with control accounts and investigates and corrects discrepancies.

  • Reviews, monitors and controls amounts expended from the budget(s) to assure expenditures do not exceed funds available.

  • Applies established accounting procedures and regulations in maintaining financial records or other fiscal documents.

  • Prepares and interprets financial reports.

  • Provides technical assistance in budget preparation.

  • Participates in cost allocation calculations.

  • Posts charges, refunds and revenues to individual accounts, including computing and verifying balances.

  • Enters all agency financial data into the accounting system.

  • Processes all ACH bank returns, NSF, tax liens, garnishments, and 1099 for all state agencies.

  • Assists with interpretation of Wyoming statutes, rules and regulations.

  • Produces correspondence.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to candidates with 1-2 years of payroll and accounting experience.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of budgets and cost controls.

  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation or the establishment of systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree (typically in Finance)

PLUS

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Clerk

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Clerk

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position may be required to pick up a minimum of 20 pounds
