    The Rawlins Field Office is in south-central Wyoming and includes one third of Sweetwater County as well as all of Carbon, Albany, and Laramie counties. Within that area, the Rawlins Field Office is responsible for the management of public lands and federal mineral estate.

    Responsibilities

    You will conduct compliance inspections during the construction of newly permitted well sites, access roads, and related ancillary facilities. You will ensure that Surface Use Plans with added stipulations are being complied with. In addition, you will conduct field inspections of plugged and abandoned oil and gas well locations and associated access roads for adequate reclamation prior to bond release. This includes compliance inspections during and after reclamation operations. Field inspections are either conducted alone or with staff specialists and/or the operator as necessary. Inspections are documented using photos and written reports including written notification to operators of findings and/or any corrective actions. You will work closely with the Fluid Mineral staff for non-compliance issues and the releasing of bonds. You will follow up on identified compliance issues within established time frames and ensures that issues are corrected. You will conduct inspections of realty projects for compliance with resource protection, reclamation and construction requirements.

    Physical Demands: The work includes both office and field work. Must be able to operate 4x4 vehicles, read maps, travel both in a vehicle and on foot in rough and remote terrain, and withstand exposure to high wind and cold temperatures.

    Work Environment: Work is performed in the office and in the field under a variety of topographic and climatic conditions, including travel to isolated areas involving exposure to high winds and extreme temperatures. Winter temperatures of 20 degrees below zero and summer temperatures of 90 degrees above zero are common.

    Qualifications

    In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.

    To qualify for the GS-06 you must have: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in federal service, OR one full year of graduate education in a field directly related to the duties of the position, OR an equivalent combination of experience and education as stated above. Specialized experience for the GS-06 level is defined as: Work assisting in conducting compliance inspections, safety checks, or any kind of energy and non-energy surface compliance inspection; work on any type of land use project that included reclamation, inspecting or doing safety checks. Experience using personal computers and office software programs to review documents and researching records and files. This experience would have been under close supervision by higher-level employee.

    To qualify for the GS-07 you must have: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in federal service, OR one full year of graduate education in a field directly related to the duties of the position, OR an equivalent combination of experience and education as stated above. Specialized experience for the GS-07 level is defined as: Performing procedural energy and non-energy surface compliance inspections, reclamation, safety checks or any kind of land use surface monitoring project. Using personal computers and office software programs to prepare reports, and analyze and present data. Work at this level would be independent with minimum review by higher-level employees.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
