SUMMARY:

Wind River Family & Community Health Care provides ambulatory health care for the service population of the Wind River Reservation. Wind River Family & Community Health Care is seeking applicants for the position of Patient Benefits Coordinator. The Patient Benefits Coordinator serves as a member of the administrative staff of the ambulatory clinics located at Arapahoe, Ethete, and Riverton, Wyoming.

The incumbent is responsible for identifying all patients that are eligible for alternate resources, assist them in applying for alternate resources, will act as an advocate for the patients, will follow up on all patient applications for benefits and alternate resources, and perform community outreach activities, on an individual and group basis, to inform patients of alternate resources that they could potentially qualify for and assist them in applying for such resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Acts as an advocate for Native American patients in securing alternate resources such as Medicare, Medicaid, Department of Veterans Affairs, State Programs, Third Party Liability, and Children’s Special Health Services, to name a few.

Identify patients who may be eligible for alternate resources through the effective utilization of screening and interviewing methods.

Works closely with all facility staff in the identification and utilization of all alternate resources available to the Indian population.

Assists families and individuals in applying for an alternate resource.

Interviews patients using established criteria.

Works closely with the Social Security Administration on local and regional levels.

Works closely with the Reservation Welfare and Tribal Medicaid offices to establish eligibility for alternate resources.

Works closely with First Impressions/patient registration staff at Wind River Family & Community Health Care Clinics.

Works with Social Services and other entities that may assist in the development of a registry of eligible patients.

Assist patients with applications for alternate resources, which may include helping arrange transportation and interpretation of rules and regulations set forth by programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

Follow up on all assigned pending applications.

Works closely with families and agencies as an advocate for the Indian patient to make sure that he/she is not discriminated against.

Must be willing to become a Certified Application Counselor through ACA Marketplace.

Must be willing to travel several times a week to collect from patients information required to complete the alternate resources applications.

Must be willing to assist other Benefit Coordinators in the collection of information needed to process applications.

Must have a clean driving record

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Knowledge of Word and Excel

Knowledge of Business Office Policies and Procedures

Knowledge of Tribal programs

Good verbal and written skills

Good organizational skills

Good Communication skills

Able to work independently

The ability and skill to compile and write reports from various documents maintained within the Business Office

The ability and skill to interview patients in order to determine eligibility for alternate resources

The ability and skill in researching benefits and alternate resources available per patient and per family in a timely manner

Must maintain strict and complete confidentiality of all administrative, medical and personnel records, and all other pertinent information that comes to his/her attention or knowledge.

Must have the ability to work under stressful situations

Must be highly motivated to assist patients in applying for third party resources to insure that they get the highest possible quality of health care available

Must be a team player

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent, prefer certification in clerical duties, along with any supporting certifications such as BLS and other necessary competencies (e.g., ACLS, TNCC, PALS, etc.)
