Job Summary

Position is off-campus at the YMCA.

Under the guidance of the Child Care Teacher, the Child Care Teacher Assistant provides assistance for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. The Child Care Teacher Assistant also provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

Reports To Alicia Knight, YMCA Youth Program Director

Education/Qualifications

  • Good Conduct and Academic Standing with the college

  • Sheridan College Student currently enrolled

  • Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or greater
  • Student must qualify for Federal Work Study to be considered for employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Mission with Character, Listen 1st and Child Abuse Prevention training within 6 month of hire date.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  • Maintains continuing education credits (STARS) required by state licensing.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

The ability to engage and interact with kids, parents and staff in a positive way. To maintain a safe friendly environment with the ability to lift, stand, sit and move with the kids.

Participate in activities while supervising. Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.

Support in the planning and implementation of daily lesson/activity plans. Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Understand ratios and youth staff, know the number of youth in program at all times.
