JOB SUMMARY

Maintains corporate computer network equipment and related components. Installs, monitors, and maintains network hardware and software. Maintains monitors and analyzes network performance issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Specific skills and tools used for this category: Routers, Switches, HUBs, Infrastructure cable, and fiber plant management. Novell, MS-Server, DNS, LDAP, MS Directory Services, and SNMP.
  • Network Monitoring and Tuning Tools, Firewall management, wireless technologies, and Network Access Management. May include VOIP technologies. Installs, maintains, and monitors the operation of the organization's local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN).
  • Evaluates vendor products in hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment and recommends purchases consistent with the organization's short and long term objectives. Implements LAN policies and standards and ensures adherence to security procedures.
  • Performs troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs/fixes for network hardware and software related problems. Typically requires college courses or certified network administration training. Typically requires 0 - 2 years’ experience in the installation and maintenance of LAN/WAN network systems.
  • Minimum of one or more years of LAN and WAN networking experience. One or more years with hands-on implementation and configuration of network infrastructure, network management, operation, testing, and integration of networking equipment is required.
  • A detailed knowledge of TCP/IP and IP addressing
  • In-depth knowledge of WAN technologies (i.e. Frame Relay, Point to Point).
  • Requires strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of Internet protocols, access methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of firewalls and network security concepts.
  • Experience using UNIX, NT in a multi-protocol environment.
  • Ability to understand and produce drawings and documentation for designing customer networks.
  • One or more years experience troubleshooting network problems.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Experience using network analyzers, cable and fiber testers, and developing troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience in project management.
  • Requires a working knowledge of network routing, switching, operating systems, technologies, and protocols including but not limited to EIGRP, OSPF, UNIX, NT, IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, HTTP, SNMP, VLANS, Firewalls, Wireless, VOIP, Video, Cabling and Fiber standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of testing and measurement equipment.
  • Requires ability to work well with people with varying technical abilities.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Associate’s Degree in computer science or equivalent experience – Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of current communications devices and protocols, server and desktop technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and tasks simultaneously.
  • Facilitation and change management skills.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications.
