GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking a Temporary Construction Crew Specialist in Sheridan, Wyoming, to perform basic construction tasks under supervision to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system.

At the foot of the Big Horn Mountains, you'll have easy access to hunting, fishing, camping, ATV trails, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, golfing, other outdoor activities, and too many festivals and events to mention. Don't forget the famous WYO Rodeo held in July and February! Constant events are held at Sheridan College, from basketball to soccer. Feel like city activities? ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Construction tasks include performing basic lab tests and survey procedures.

  • Perform construction inspections.

  • Prepare and check computations and data.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to individuals who can perform algebraic calculations.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of materials testing.

  • Knowledge of surveying methods and equipment operations.

  • Knowledge of construction inspection, which includes interpretation of plans and specifications.

  • Skill in the use of computers.

  • Strong math skills required.

  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations.

  • Knowledge of documentation of project records.

  • Knowledge of communication with supervisors and contractors.

  • Knowledge of material testing, ability to perform complicated computer calculations.

  • Knowledge of survey methods & ability to apply such as uploading & downloading of survey files.

  • Knowledge of contract time, administration & contract changes.

  • Knowledge of engineering computations/formulas.

  • Knowledge of core drilling equipment, pneumatic & electric jackhammers, and hand tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Daily use of motor vehicles.

  • Workaround large construction machinery.

  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independently.

  • Work outdoors for extended periods of time in adverse environmental conditions.

  • Must be willing to work long hours and up to 6 days per week.

  • Daily and overnight travel is required.
