JOB SUMMARY

Versatile, competent, experienced registered nurses to serve as Float Pool Registered Nurses (PRN) who perform a full range of professional nursing duties on a variety of patient care unites such as Telemetry, Medical – Surgical, Critical Care, Pediatrics and the Emergency Department. Duties include assessing, planning, evaluating and implementing patient care in accordance with accepted standards of practice and organizational policy, administering medications and treatments, performing documentation and providing education to patients and families. Float Pool Registered Nurses are assigned throughout the hospital and have varying schedules and unit assignments.

DEPARTMENT KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct and indirect professional nursing care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit, Medical Surgical Unit, Emergency Department and any other area assigned. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring. Correctly identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol.

  • Required to work 1/3 in each area per year, but if high demand is in a specific area that will be the balance.

  • Able to provide basic airway management utilizing oral and nasal airways, ambu bag, jaw thrust or head tilt/chin lift maneuvers, and suctioning.
  • Functions competently during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status.
  • Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
  • Able to assess and care for patients in the immediate post anesthesia period.
  • Able to function independently by using critical thinking skills to assess and intervene in critical situations until physician is on site.
  • Maintains department competencies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BLS certification, required.
  • BSN, preferred.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience, requied.

Department Specific Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • ACLS certification, required.
  • ENPC or PALS certification, required.
  • TNCC certification, required.
  • NVCI or equivalent certification within one year of position start date, required.
  • NRP certification, preferred.

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

  • Participates in continuing education activities within the department and organization
  • Attends and actively participates in departmental staff meetings
  • Keeps up to date with clinical practice and evidence-based practice guidelines
