JOB SUMMARY

Quality activities assure that safety and infection prevention meets the needs of patients, visitors, staff, and regulatory agencies. Serves as a liaison between process owners, key stakeholders, and hospital councils/committees in an effort to ensure safety and infection prevention compliance to promote safety and the use of evidence based clinical practice. Acts as a change agent to lead, facilitate, and support staff to create and sustain a culture of high reliability that focuses on elimination of preventable harm. Facilitates and coaches teams regarding risk assessment and analysis and assists them to develop action plans to prevent errors from future occurrences. Facilitates the Patient Safety Committee and Infection Prevention Committee meetings, works closely with the Medical Director of Infection Control, and partners with other entities as indicated; such as, the Wyoming Department of Public Health. Act as a resource to providers and staff regarding the reduction and management of risks of disease transmission and patient safety events. Actively participates in and monitors infection control recommendations related to construction and renovation projects including Infection Control Risk Assessments and compliance with regulations. Participates in the development, review of associate safety and health related organizational goals, and implement a comprehensive and proactive associate safety and health program to include organizational strategic goals. Seeking an individual with a passion for building systems that create safety and reliability for employees, patients, and families; implementing patient safety and infection prevention best practices; and supporting compliance with regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for patient safety and infection prevention activities for Sheridan Memorial Hospital (SMH) in all clinical areas.
  • Develop and coordinate a comprehensive and proactive Infection Prevention and Control Program Plan and Risk Assessment using IP principles.
  • Conducts surveillance on trending, relevant, and high-risk patient safety and infection prevention measures.
  • Routinely collaborates Patient Safety and Infection Prevention rounds, assessing appropriateness of isolation precautions, and other matters of safety concern throughout the organization.
  • Develop and review policies and procedures related to Patient Safety and Infection Prevention practices in accordance with regulatory guidelines and state and federal agencies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school.
  • At least one year of infection prevention or related hospital/healthcare experience.
  • At least one year of quality improvement experience, to include: consultation or direct work in performance improvement.
  • Becomes an APIC national and local chapter member within one year of hire.
  • Infection Control Certification required within 3 years of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate collaborative efforts with other departments and to implement infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders by utilizing change management concepts.
  • Computer skills and experience working with a clinical database and electronic health record required.
  • Independent judgment and analytical ability to problem solve, make decisions, formulate reports, perform statistical analysis and interpret data.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills are required.
