The clinic manager for the Sheridan College Dental Hygiene Program works in partnership with the director, dentist, faculty, and students in the daily operation of the dental hygiene clinic and performs associated clerical duties.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

Students in the clinical setting

Chair the infection and hazards control committee

Reports To Director of Dental Hygiene

Education/Qualifications

Dental background required, including current knowledge of infection control standards.

Graduate of a dental assisting program, preferred.

Associate degree and dental management experience, preferred.

Current immunizations and Healthcare Provider CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to multi-task and manage interruptions

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Communicate effectively both oral and written with a diverse range of individuals and groups

Analyze and solve problems, trouble-shoot, be a self-starter

Enforce college policies and follow college procedures

Work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environment

Employ strong organizational skills and demonstrate attention to detail

Proficient in dental software operation and application, computer software operation and application, including Eaglesoft, Windows and Microsoft Office

Delegate appropriate tasks

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform functions and responsibilities of the position listed above.

This position requires the ability to lift (up to 25 lbs), transport and store boxes that hold dental supplies and chemicals.

Experience

Dental background required, including current knowledge of infection control standards

Responsibility/Duty

Student Support Duties:

Create and track purchases and deposits for SADHA

Coordinate content and purchasing of student instrument kits

Track student instrument kit items by number, color coding system, and serial numbers if applicable; assign and record student lockers and numbers

Create and maintain student/faculty operatory assignments for each clinical session

Train, supervise, and grade the performance of students in office, clinic, radiology assistant and screener duties

Assist with clinical regional dental hygiene exam preparation and implementation

Faculty/Staff Support Duties:

Interpret and enforce Sheridan College Dental Hygiene Program Handbook Policies and Procedures

Write and revise clinic policies that affect student and faculty health and safety

Review the Expectations of All Dental Hygiene Faculty/Staff document annually and sign

Assist in dental hygiene program accreditation process

Attend regularly scheduled department and ad-hoc meetings

Participate in in-service, orientations and college required activities

Assist in recruiting faculty and students

Coordinate/Communicate clinical dentist’s rotation; coordinate substitute dentists

Maintain records and contact information for clinical substitutes; organize and maintain substitute calendar; schedule substitutes when necessary

Perform other duties delegated by the director of dental hygiene

Responsibility/Duty

Clinical/Client Maintenance and Supplies:

Perform clinic office duties that include but are not limited to answering the phone, scheduling client appointments, maintaining recall system, and the recording, preparing, and delivering of the clinic fee deposits to the business office

Create and maintain needed forms and records for student clinics, dental pain clinic, accreditation requirements, grant, and mil-money documentation

Review working agreements with clinic rotation sites annually in cooperation with sophomore and junior clinic coordinators and director, and coordinate/communicate student clinical rotation schedules with institutions that have working agreements with the program

Maintain and inventory all clinic supplies

Inventory all clinical equipment, monitor function, and coordinate needed repairs as promptly as possible

Monitor and document all clinical sterilization and spore testing procedures

Maintain and document MSDS, OSHA, and ADA Infection Control Guidelines, HIPPA, and FERPA compliance

Schedule/record external chart audit reviews for accuracy and currency of client records
