Human Resource Generalist

Summary/Objective

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting the organization. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, affirmative action, and employment law compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Administer various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel.
  • Monitor employee eligibility for benefits plans.
  • Review benefits with employees and process enrollment, cancellation, or changes.
  • Organize and manage annual open enrollment communications and election process.
  • Verify benefits billing accuracy and procedures for payment.
  • Monitor, review, and update job descriptions.
  • Maintain affirmative action program data; files EEO-1 report annually; and maintains other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • File annual VETS-4212 report.
  • Maintain OSHA program data and file annual report to conform to OSHA regulations.
  • Work with Human Resources Director on certain employee relations and disciplinary matters.
  • Collaborate with supervisors on new-hire compensation, job descriptions, HR system management, or any other related staff needs and improvements.
  • Report, maintain, and monitor all workers' compensation case files; follow-up on open cases; supply information to workers’ compensation departments for annual employer discount.
  • Keep company organization charts updated.
  • Retain Human Resource information system records and compile reports from the database.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Administer COBRA for group health plans.
  • Ensure compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; periodically audit I-9 compliance.
  • Maintain and process all Unemployment Notices of Entitlement and potential charges in a timely, efficient manner. Attends unemployment hearings when necessary.
  • Partner with employees and upper management to communicate various Human Resource policies, procedures, laws, standards, and other government regulations.
  • Responsible for quarterly random UAs.
  • Operate organizational Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Initiate, update, and maintain all documentation for contract employees.

Supervisory Responsibility

This job may have supervisory responsibility dependent on departmental needs.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stoop as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Occasional travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two to three years of HR generalist experience, or five years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in human resources or related field.
  • Certified HR Professional Certification: SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, PHR, SPHR.
  • Four to seven years of human resource experience.
