With administrative guidance, the Nursing Assistant Instructor assists in planning, developing and implementing the nursing assistant training needs for assigned communities. This position will coordinate the nursing assistant training needs of Sheridan College and Johnson County-Buffalo Campus.

Reports To Assistant Director of Nursing

Education/Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications including education, experience, required licensures, certifications, and registrations:
  • ADN or BSN from accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Wyoming.
  • Two years full-time experience in nursing.
  • One year of long-term care experience required.
  • Must be approved Nursing Assistant instructor by the Wyoming Department of Health.
  • Current BLS or able to obtain certification by date of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understand medical equipment, technology and supplies used in the nursing area.
  • Understand safety standards and practices used in the lab/clinical settings.
  • Make simple repairs and performs minor maintenance to lab equipment.
  • Maintain an established work schedule. Flexibility to work irregular schedules to meet student and faculty needs.
  • Ability to function as an effective member of a team.
  • Use effective communication, organization, and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Promote and ensure standards of practice for the nursing assistant.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in use of standard office software applications.
  • Commitment to continuous learning.
  • Supportive of NWCCD mission, vision and values.
  • Analyze and solve basic and routine problems.
  • Interpret college policies and procedures.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed primarily indoors in a standard office, classroom, clinical lab, or clinical healthcare environment. There is exposure to hazards related to working in medical waste and/or sharps equipment.
  • Subject to walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping. Frequent lifting of objects up to 30 pounds. Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines. Near vision sufficient to read written communication and computer display screens. Adequate hearing to communicate efficiently in person and by phone.
  • Work flexible hours as needed. May require work during evening, night, weekend hours.
  • Travel between campus buildings, clinical sites, and to other locations may be indicated. A valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

Experience

  • Two years full-time experience in nursing.

Plans, implements, revises and evaluates the nursing assistant educational program.

Coordinates nursing assistant training needs for designated Community partners. Manages the marketing and recruiting needs of the Nurse Assistant course.

Responsibility/Duty

Teaches nursing assistant students both in the formal classroom and clinical setting. Uses a variety of teaching methods, prepares testing materials, analyzes and evaluates the teaching process. Prepares nursing assistant students’ assignments for clinical experiences. Supervises and evaluates students’ skills laboratory and clinical practice.

Responsibility/Duty

Coordinates all student interactions related to the course. Advises potential and current nursing assistant students. Ensures students meet applicable course requirements and assists students with registering for the course. Confidentially maintains a current file for each student to verify compliance. Holds periodic conferences with students to share their progress.

Responsibility/Duty

Develops and identifies instructional resources used in the classroom and clinical settings. Recommends and procures instructional supplies for use in the classroom and skills laboratory. Provides care and maintenance of course supplies and equipment.

Responsibility/Duty

Assumes responsibility for own continuing education by participation in workshops, seminars, regional and national meetings as appropriate to maintain position qualifications. Serves as a role model for students in professional demeanor, nursing practice, and association with professional organizations/community healthcare agencies.

Maintains accurate and complete records relating to the nursing assistant educational Program, including but not limited to, common course syllabus, student course evaluations, program reports, student performance in obtaining state certification.
