GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This is a teaching position in a structured setting for delinquent youth ages 12-21. The teacher plans and creates the curriculum in order to help residents address Wyoming Content and Performance Standards from the Common Core of knowledge and skills. The teacher in this position is responsible for measuring and helping assess residents' results. The teacher manages resident behavior and reports progress to dormitory staff on a weekly basis. In addition, the teacher is required to be a part of the entire Wyoming Girls School program as appropriate. Occasional dorm fill-in duties and transportation of residents may be required.

  • Participates in the planning and development of the curriculum

  • Prepares residents' lessons and instructional materials.

  • Manages, teaches, and interacts with residents in a classroom setting.

  • Administers assessment tests to residents; measures & assesses results.

  • Maintains education files following departmental regulations.

  • Collaborates with other staff regarding residents' needs and/or performance

  • Attends multidisciplinary meetings for residents.

  • Adheres to state, facility, and federal guidelines related to institution education programs.

  • Provides consultation on special needs residents for other educational, program or security staff.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants who hold a Secondary Language Arts or Science Certificate in addition to another area of concentration.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of planning for instruction, motivation, physical, mental and emotional growth, learning styles and classroom management.

  • Knowledge of curriculum management and development.

  • Knowledge of basic computer software and operation of computers.

  • Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities.

  • Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teacher Aide

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Teacher Aide

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Possession of or proof of ability to secure a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board Certificate.
