Summary/Objective

The Communications Director, in partnership with the Senior Director of Development, is responsible to lead the Communications Team with thoughtful strategy in the development and management of effective communications and marketing to reach key stakeholders for Volunteers of America Northern Rockies.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains organizational web site as the head of the Communications Team
  • Directs, coordinates, and grows mass communications efforts
  • Develops and maintains social media outlets as the head of the Communications Team
  • Create, direct, and manage a public relations and media relations program that develops strong public and media relationships, obtain significant positive media coverage of VOANR and support all aspects of integrated operations including branding, fundraising, public policy, and services
  • Provide organizational expertise and guidance to develop public relations strategies while maintaining and seeking new cooperative relationships with representatives of various community, customer, and public interest groups
  • Manages effective measurement systems to evaluate marketing and communications efforts
  • Plans and directs production of marketing and communications materials for both internal and external use
  • Write and edit letters, appeals, materials, web content to support the program and keep external groups aware of the organizations policies, activities, and accomplishments
  • Manages response procedures to the general public about VOANR
  • Partners with the VOA national office to achieve marketing and communications goals
  • Leads the creation of fund-raising materials to assist the Development Team
  • Works closely with staff from across VOANR to create marketing materials to meet program needs
  • Builds VOANR identity, and protects its graphic and trademarked properties, as long-term assets of the organization
  • Oversees the maintenance of VOANR archives
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities of the Communications Team, and may serve as a coach and mentor for other organization positions.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptops, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience in marketing, advertising, brand management, or public relations
  • Must be motivated, innovative and comfortable in front of people; have good decision making and good interactive skills; must be goal oriented, have high energy, and possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • More than five (5) years of related experience
  • Experience as a designer for both print and digital media, or as a copywriter
  • Knowledge or experience in television and radio production, web-based communication, printing processes, media planning, photography, and/or marketing research
