Summary/Objective

The Cultural Coordinator aids potential patients and their referring agencies to help with the admissions process. This position assists admitted patients with care services coordination with external physical and behavioral health care systems, appointments in the community, and transportation needs. This position also provides service coordination for patients including assisting with and facilitating cultural and non-cultural groups in both residential locations

Essential Functions

  • Provide cultural training and insights with staff and patients

  • Monitor and document patient treatment information in electronic health record system(s)

  • Facilitate culturally appropriate groups following the NACEP curriculum

  • Assist potential patients and referring agencies regarding the VOANR treatment program and admissions process

  • Provide referrals to other agencies and sources while applicants are on the waiting list

  • Work closely with the clinical care team to assist patients at all stages of their recovery programming and provide educational recovery groups

  • Perform outreach services by traveling to locations to meet with patients/families and coordinating services

  • Perform administrative support including but not limited to: insurance verification, medical record/chart review, data entry of patient information, and organizing and submitting program correspondence

  • Work with clinical staff and individual patients in generating continuing care plans and making referrals to resources in the patient's home community to support their recovery

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates primarily in a residential treatment facility environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones. The position also conducts sweat lodge ceremonies.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to bend or stoop as necessary. This position must be mobile throughout the facility, as well as work on a computer for periods of time. This position must also be capable of withstanding the high-heat atmospheric conditions created within the lodge as part of the ceremony.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Hours are generally 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Travel

Some travel is expected for this position, as needed to meet with Tribal/Agency/Nation leaders and meet referral and program needs.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, science or other related discipline or

  • Associate degree and three (3) years relevant experience

  • Proficient with a variety of computer software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Suite and desktop publishing

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Enrolled member of nationally recognized Native American tribe

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in a mental health discipline with a concentration in addiction, chemical dependency, or substance abuse

  • CAP or CSW through the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board or ability to obtain Wyoming Clinician licensure in first six months of employment

  • Peer Specialist Certification
