The Sheridan High School is seeking a positive, professional and motivated principal to join our SCSD2 team! This position is year round (260 days/year); eligible for health, dental, vision and life insurance; and contributes to the Wyoming Retirement System Employee Pension. Paid leave consists of 19 holidays, 21 vacation days, 4 personal days, and 12 sick days. This position will begin in July 2020.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Staff members designated by the Board and/or the Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate at Sheridan High School.
  • Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  • Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities.
  • Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
  • Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests and monitors expenditures of funds.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork as required.
  • Keeps the Superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the Superintendent’s accountability.
  • Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains active relationships with students and parents and arranges special meetings between parents and teachers as needed.
  • Supervises the school’s educational program.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the school curriculum.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary based on established guidlines regarding proper student conduct.
  • Attends events to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions, and athletics.
  • Oversees various local funds generated by student activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of records pertaining to the progress and attendance of students.
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students.
  • Monitors changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the public education field.
  • Supervises all high school staff members including certified, classified, and professsional staff.
  • Assists in the recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating of Sheridan High School staff.
  • Supervises the school’s teaching process. Observes teachers and their teaching methods on a daily basis. Routinely advises teachers on enhancements and necessary improvements.
  • Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
  • Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school.
  • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  • Participates in principals’ meetings, negotiations meetings, and other meetings as required or appropriate.
  • All other duties as requested by the Superintendent.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Be able to stand 20% of the time without fatigue or discomfort.
  • Be able to walk 50% of the time without fatigue or discomfort.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Two hundred sixty days (two hundred five days for elementary principals) with salary and fringe benefits to be set by Board of Trustees.
