Summary

Responsibility for the overall delivery of care in the assigned areas and for direct supervision of staff. Provides task oriented care to patients (under direct supervision of preceptor) in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings to include but not limited to acute psychiatry unit.

Nurse Manager (APU) Responsibilities: Designated first-line supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for the 24/7 operations, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice.

Educational Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) is being offered with this position. Loans must be for the health professional's education that qualified the applicant for a specific position. Registered Nurse have been Identified on the Sheridan VA Hard To Recruit List. You can receive an opportunity to have both principal and interest covered by this EDRP opportunity. Participants may receive up to $200,000 towards a qualified loan over a 5 year period. EDRP is a reimbursement program. At the end of each program year, or service period, participants must provide proof of payment to lenders to receive reimbursement.W ork Schedule : Monday through Friday; regular business hours with the possibility of extended hours and weekends.

DUTIES: Works collaboratively with the Interdisciplinary teams, provides coordination and accountability for all regulatory and environmental surveys and adheres to mandatory response timelines. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Applies all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting

Enables effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses

Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates

Setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work

Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty of the and the requirement of the assignments

Making recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of subordinates

Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care

Participates in bed flow activities such as consult management, screening residents

Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities.

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

English Language Proficiency: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN ) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE ). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6 ) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Note : ensure the 10-2850a lists all current or previous licensure for verification.

Preferred Experience: Experience in ICU/ER/PACU -OR- Geriatrics with emphasis in Mental Health preferred

Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:

Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.

Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.

Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.

Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree.

Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment.

Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in a patient care setting; adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated. Office temperatures fluctuate periodically; involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as clinics, offices, meeting and training rooms or libraries; exposure to noise and dust on occasion. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures .
