Summary

The Systems Administrator is directly responsible for all of the day-to-day computer operations of the companies’ local computer systems. This includes all data acquisition and administrative network servers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:

  • Daily full backup of all data systems including Windows Server, MS SQL Server. Error logs must be checked daily on all systems. If backups do not get made notify supervisor within 4 business hours as to system not backed up and cause of failure
  • Monthly verification of backups by restoring a file from tape.
  • Notify supervisor which systems were tested. .
  • Maintenance of Windows Active Directory users and email accounts
  • Delete old user accounts from AD
  • Periodic changes of all administrator/root passwords – update keys and forward to supervisor .
  • Maintenance of LAN hardware, including hubs, switches, cables and routers,.
  • Maintenance of Windows server, including hardware and backup software.
  • Maintenance of all printers.
  • Enforcement of good security practices at local level.
  • Maintenance of local PC’s.
  • Periodic backup of laptops.
  • Maintain a checklist of Daily/Weekly/Monthly tasks.
  • Immediate notification to supervisor if any servers abend, any unscheduled rebooting or any systems related or shared device failures that affect user productivity. This includes such things as printers, hubs, routers, etc. but does not include workstation issues.
  • Maintain records of software licenses used in the facility.
  • Maintain records on IP address assignment.
  • Verify that all workstations are running the latest virus pattern file.
  • Maintain both physical and virtual server/storage systems.

  • Upgrade/Install and configure business applications, infrastructure and maintain system standards.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience - High School diploma and some college or technical school attendance required. College degree preferred. (Math or Computer Science emphasis desired). Training on Local Area networks and their associated wiring topology and operating systems. In addition, knowledge of p.c. based spreadsheet products (Lotus, Quattro, and Excel) and database (Dbase, FoxPro, and Access) is required. Prior experience operating Mini-computers or as a Local Area Network (LAN) administrator is required. 2 years minimum.

  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

  • Work Environment – The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively at a highly technical level both verbally and in writing.

  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common factions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Computer Skills – Proficient use of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office products especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and the ability to multi task between products.
