GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provides supervision of subordinate staff and assists in the design, implementation and application of structure and correctional treatment programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Provides leadership, direction, oversight, training, and supervision of staff.

  • Oversees/supervises activities and programs for staff and youth which may include non-traditional business hours.

  • Coordinates with the staff to ensure functions are properly in place and logistics are coordinated.

  • Develops standard operation procedures.

  • Writes and reviews incident/physical management reports.

  • Responsible for individualized case planning, monitoring, and reporting correspondence, contacts, and case notes.

  • Coordinates the intake/stabilization program.

  • Responsible for facilitation of group and individual meetings with residents, and the coordination of activities and classes.

  • Provides training and counseling to subordinates on the organization's goals, objectives, policies and procedures, scope of authority; responsibilities and duties.

  • Monitors subordinates' job performance; conducts and documents performance appraisals of subordinates.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Services PLUS, 1 year of progressive work experience in Youth Services.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of behavior management concepts, local, state and national best practices concerning delinquent behaviors, substance abuse, and mental health issues and transition of youth from institution to community.

  • Knowledge of state, federal and agency child care treatment/safety standards and procedures.

  • Knowledge and skills in staff supervision, leadership, motivation, training, conducting staff meetings, setting performance goals and standards, scheduling, and conducting employee performance appraisals.

  • Knowledge of budget issues relative to youth services, risk management, safety, building maintenance, supplies, training, and transportation.

  • Knowledge of psychology of the criminal mind, variety of treatment philosophies and application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Social Services)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Youth Services Specialist

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Youth Services Specialist

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Afternoon/Evening Shift Work
