Based at our Yellowstone Mine near Cameron, MT, the Heavy Equipment Mobile Mechanic will support the locations health, safety, environmental and quality programs (HSEQ) by participating in their implementation, maintenance, and enforcement as well as compliance with corporate programs and policies. Maintenance Lead is a key operations support role that is required to work with all departments within the Yellowstone Mine Operations. This role works effectively to coordinate work with the Plant Operators, Welder/Fabricator, Electrician, Plant Supervisor, Mine Manager, and HSEQ Staff.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide maintenance; service, repair, and modification of the mines heavy mobile equipment (HME) fleet.

Ensures maximum availability of the mines HME fleet.

Works on/with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or electronic equipment systems.

Servicing mobile equipment (40% of the time, mostly indoors):

Ensures compliance with company preventative maintenance practices/service schedules to ensure the operating efficiency of the equipment fleet(s). Planned maintenance typically includes various hour-based services, mid-life repairs, overhauls, and major rebuilds.

Performs service tasks which can include changing oil(s), adding fuel, steam cleaning vehicles and parts, changing parts and components such as wiper blades and filters.

Examines parts for damage or excessive wear.

Cleans, lubricates, and performs other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.

Assists in the complete overhaul and rebuilding of major components such as engines, transmissions, radiators, torque converters, pump drives, final drives, differentials, brakes, suspensions, cylinders, and hydraulic systems.

Operates and inspects machines or heavy equipment in order to troubleshoot defects.

Diagnoses faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.

Repairs and replaces damaged or worn parts. Includes seals and shaft sealing rings, horns, wiring harnesses, starting switches, ignition distributors, sensors, fuel and water pumps; adjust voltage and current control units, engine idle, brakes, transmission linkages, battery cables, and engine components.

Dismantles and reassembles heavy equipment.

Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers specifications.

Installs after-market devices.

Fabricates and installs safety devices such as guarding, handrails, and catwalks.

Checks function of auto-lube and fire suppression devices.

Involves performing HSEQ inspections, interactions, and reporting.

Achieves/maintains both personal and company compliance with HSEQ standards, policies, and procedures (e.g. isolation of equipment).

Education and Experience requirements:

High school diploma or GED

Valid drivers license

Technical/vocational school completion and/or diesel mechanic certification preferred

3+ years mechanic experience

Mining experience preferred, surface mining experience a plus.

Working knowledge of various techniques for removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories.

Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to HME

Able to use basic tools such as wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, brake tools, and screwdrivers as well as test/measurement devices such as feeler gauges, depth gauges, circuit testers, micrometers, and dial indicators.

Able to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

Familiarity with cranes, hoists, and rigging techniques.

Computer skills a plus

Welding experience and/or certification a plus

MSHA training a plus

First Aid and CPR training a plus
