Overview:

The Human Resource Generalist is a long-term, seasonal position located in the Gardiner area of Yellowstone National Park. This position has authority and responsibility to assist with various functions, including, but not limited to Employee Engagement, Communications, Employee Housing, Benefits, and Learning and Development. The ideal candidate would be available from mid-January to mid-November each year.

Responsibilities:

Employee Engagement & Communications

  • Copy-editing of all print and electronic content sometimes requiring fast turnaround times

  • Production of 1-2 articles a month for the employee newsletter

  • Creation of digital sign content and postings for intranet

  • Work with field housing to ensure communication standards are being met in dorms and other employee areas

  • Other communication support as needed

  • Provide support to HR Coordinator and Communications/Engagement Manager to ensure successful deployment of Recognition Programs including Guest Service Gold, service year recognition, manager gifts, and employee appreciation dinners

  • Ensure thorough knowledge and administration of the Exploration Yellowstone Program, providing support to field HR teams and employees, and advocacy of the program. Following up with employee trips including marketing, reminders, attendance tracking, survey, and prizes

  • Provide marketing and communication support for HR sponsored field trips for staff throughout the summer (May-August)

Benefits

  • Provide support for benefits enrollment and education during check-in days and open enrollment periods

  • Act as ambassador for Compensation and Benefits program, showcasing thorough knowledge of available benefits and assisting with enrolling employees in insurance during various times of the year

  • Assist with preparation of insurance bills for end of seasons

  • Participate in site visits providing benefits education and fielding questions

  • Prepare payroll upload spreadsheets (data entry) for insurance premiums

Employee Housing

  • Assist Housing Coordinator with HR CEA and non-cap purchases related to park-wide facilities

  • Assist in development , preparation, and updating of training materials for HR Management Training Week offering mid-season on-site training as needed

  • Assist with RC/DC training as needed; act as L&D liaison

  • Support field personnel as needed

  • Assist with the coordination of storing, returning, and/or donating items left behind in housing facilities by departing employees

  • Assist with coordination of trainer housing in the Spring

  • Possess the ability to effectively learn all housing-related position duties, know how to perform them successfully, and be able to relay and execute them in the field

  • Create purchasing reports to monitor budget for overall HR purchases

Other

  • Assists with general HR and front desk coverage including walk-ins, check-ins/check-outs, general inquiries and HR Office supply ordering as needed

  • Serve as HR representative (or back up to HR Coordinator) on the YES (Yellowstone Environmental Stewardship) Council

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven accuracy and consistent attention to detail

  • Office organization skills and proven ability to multitask, work in a team setting, and/or autonomous setting

  • Superior Customer Service Skills

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills (both verbal and written).

  • Experience with copy editing and graphic design a plus.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn applicable computer systems (I.E. Lawson, Kronos, Maximo, XEP, FoodTrak,)

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and basic HTML skills preferred.

  • Comfortable working independently along with strong collaboration skills.

  • Basic knowledge or ability to obtain knowledge of Company and Park rules and regulations, and Policy and Procedure compliance

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a driver’s license for business-oriented travel

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to walk and/or stand a minimum of 30 minutes at a time

  • Must be able to walk up to 1 mile continuously

  • Must be able to kneel or lay flat on the ground to facilitate training

  • Must be able to climb stairs

  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain, including icy and snow covered areas

  • Must be able to remain seated for periods of 30-120 minutes or longer

Authorities:

  • Enforcement of Company Policies and Procedures.

  • Contact of Security staff, NPS, and/or upper management as needed in handling of department employee situations.

  • Disclosure of confidential information on a need-to-know basis only.

  • Proper disposal of year-round staff files after required retention period.

  • Sharing of file information with law enforcement and/or court representatives.
