The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, is accepting applications through USAJOBS, to recruit for one permanent, full-time position of Supervisory Park Ranger (Protection), Law Enforcement Specialist, GS-0025-12.ResponsibilitiesWithin the Division of Resources Management and Visitor Protection and under the guidance and direct supervision of the Deputy Chief Ranger, incumbent will administer the Yellowstone Justice and Jail programs. Yellowstone averages over 60 prisoners a year and 300+ mandatory court appearances. Will administer the Yellowstone 911 Center. Provides oversite and ensures execution of dispatch and 911 services to assure compliance with applicable regulations and policies. Determines the need for warrants of arrest, search, drafts affidavits and warrants, obtains and executes search warrants. Investigates complaints against employees as assigned by the Chief Rangers Office. Serves as custodial property manager for YELL firearms program. Directly supervises one GS-11 Jail Supervisor, and four GL-9 permanent staff rangers. Manages complex investigations involving criminal activity, injuries or deaths in NPS jurisdiction; personally conduct or supervise sensitive investigations involving allegations of employee misconduct; and investigate and respond to routine complaints or requests for information involving assigned program areas. Serves as liaison with all federal enforcement agencies, maintain General Agreements with outside agencies, both federal and local, and work closely with U.S. Attorney's Office, U.S. Magistrate, and U.S. Clerk of Court. Coordinates and ensures content for annual Law Enforcement Training for up to 100 Yellowstone park rangers per year. Answers data calls for Superintendent, Regional Office, WASO, and DOI. Tracks budgetary expenditures for Justice and Jail program. Purchases parkwide supplies and equipment such as Electronic Control Devices, Body worn and In-Car Cameras, video surveillance equipment ammunition, etc. Will work a full-time work schedule, 40 hours per week. This is a required occupancy position and federal government housing is available in Park Headquarters, Mammoth Hot Springs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbent must maintain good physical condition and be able to pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) or applicable standard outlined in Director's Order/Reference Manual-57 NPS Occupational Medical Standards, Health and Fitness. Work demands range from moderate periods of office work (walking, standing, sitting, and lifting) to strenuous periods of extreme physical and mental activity. Emergency service activities involve walking long distances over rough terrain, carrying heavy loads and using technical rescue equipment. Going without sleep for long periods of time is a common occurrence. Incumbent must be able to fly in a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft without ill effects. FITNESS: Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties; and also pass a medical examination (which includes vision, hearing, cardiovascular, and mobility of extremities) given by an authorized government physician. You will also be required to undergo periodic medical examinations throughout employment. The PEB is a fitness test consisting of five different components: 1) agility run - measures the ability to get up from the ground and sprint while changing directions; 2) bench press - measures upper body strength for one repetition; 3) 1.5 mile run - measures cardio/respiratory fitness; 4) sit and reach - measures flexibility in the lower back, legs and shoulders; and 5) body composition - measures body fat. Prior to appointment, selectees will be tested in all five components, and must pass the agility run, bench press and 1.5 mile run in the 25th percentile. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office setting, classroom, in the field, on trails, and in remote backcountry settings. Rescue and EMS work involves frequent exposure to hazardous environments, hazardous tight landings and take offs, extremes in temperature, and exposure to communicable diseases. Various levels of personal protective clothing are required to perform duty functions safely.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentU.S. Citizenship required. A school is available, with kindergarten through 12, in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, day care, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles from Mammoth.
